  1. Severe flood warnings up to 17published at 07:30 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2017

    The Environment Agency has raised the number of severe flood warnings to 17 - the third time it has increased the number in the past hour. 

    The majority are still on the east coast of England, but there are now warnings for coastlines in Somerset, Hastings and the Isle of Wight.

    The Highland Council in Scotland has confirmed two nurseries, three primary schools and one secondary school will shut.

    The Environment Agency has raised its number of severe flood warnings for the second time this morning, this time to 14. They are focused along the east cost of England. 

    There has also been a rise in medium-risk flood warnings to 78.

    The village of Jaywick, in Essex, is being evacuated by police because of a strong chance of water coming in over the sea wall. 

    District policing commander for Tendring, Ch Insp Russ Cole, said the force was not "crying wolf" and the weather could be severe.
