    Heathrow Airport is still warning passengers to check with their airlines in case of any delays caused by the adverse weather conditions. 

    On Thursday, flights were pre-emptively cancelled at both Heathrow and Gatwick.

    Thursday saw parts of the UK hit by snow and a number of weather warnings issued, the latter mainly down the east coast.

    Friday looks set for more of the same, with the Met Office issuing yellow "be aware" warnings for wind and snow.

    The government has also issued seven severe flood warnings for the east coast, along with 70 flood warnings and 80 flood alerts.

    The Environment Agency have been working through the night. They say early morning tide levels in the north east of England were less than expected but alerts and warnings remain in place.

    Army officers have been informing residents in Skegness, Lincolnshire, about the risk of flooding from an expected tidal surge. 

    Some 3,000 residents on the coast have been advised to leave their homes or move upstairs.

    Snow and ice have caused disruption to travel networks across Scotland, with school closures also reported.

    Wintry conditions are affecting the Highlands, central belt and south of Scotland, making travel difficult in some parts.

    The wintry weather is continuing to disrupt transport around the South East. 

    In East Sussex, the railway line is closed between Lewes and Eastbourne while engineers check flooding nearby.

    Network Rail said it is not safe to run trains at the moment.

    And a tree has fallen onto a line at Wadhurst, delaying services between Tonbridge and Hastings.

    Gatwick Airport cancelled five flights earlier

    But the airport said it is sweeping and de-icing the runway to keep it open.
