    A double-decker bus has been toppled on its side in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire by the strong winds.

    An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said four ambulances, two rapid response vehicles, an ambulance officer, and a medical response car attended the scene in Lynn Road.

    Fifteen people were helped at the scene. Eight were taken to north Cambridgeshire minor injury unit in stable conditions and three were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital with minor injuries.

  2. How are storms named?published at 16:07 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2017

    It's a good opportunity, perhaps, to remind ourselves how Doris got her name.

    A storm is named when it is deemed potentially able to have a substantial impact on the UK or Ireland.  

    It is the second year of the "name our storms" project by the Met Office and Met Eireann, which takes suggestions from submissions by members of the public.

    The new list is being applied to storms between 1 October 2016 and September 2017.

    The naming protocol was covered in our story last September .

    It's not on the way yet - but the next storm to hit the UK will be called Ewan.

    Snow caused the M80 near Falkirk to temporarily closed in both directions this morning.

    But the Met Office amber "be prepared" snow warning for parts of south and central Scotland has now been  downgraded to a yellow "be aware" warning, external .

    It has emerged that the death in Wolverhampton took place outside a branch of coffee giant Starbucks. 

    The company said in statement: "We are shocked and saddened by this terrible incident. 

    "We are supporting the police with their investigation and our store will remain closed until further notice."

    A witness said it was unclear if the debris that hit the woman - said be aged between 20 and 30 - had fallen from the coffee shop or from another building.

    Highways England issued a weather alert on major roads and closed several routes.

    They include M6 Thelwall Viaduct in Cheshire in both directions between junction 20 and 21 in the North West and the QE2 Bridge in Dartford, Kent. 

    In Humberside, the M62 Ouse Bridge is currently closed in both directions to high sided and vulnerable vehicles, between J36 and J37.

    There was traffic disruption in central London when scaffolding became dislodged on an office block extension in Holborn. The roadway was cordoned off as a ribbon of scaffolding hung from the roof at Aldwych House, built in 1926.

    The Met Office has extended amber warnings predicting strong winds and heavy rain to include the capital.
