    Prime Minister Theresa May said the attacker "acted alone" and there was no reason to believe there would be imminent further attacks.

    The attacker was British born and was investigated by MI5 "some years ago", she said. 

    Mrs May said he was not part of the current intelligence picture. 

    The prime minister said the UK's threat level is set at severe and will not change following Wednesday's attacks.

    Mrs May gave details of those who were injured in the Westminster terror attack. 

    They included 12 Britons, three French children, two Romanians, four South Koreans, two Greeks, and one person each from Germany, Poland, Ireland, China, Italy and the United States. 

    Three police officers were also hurt, two of them seriously.

    Enterprise car rental company have confirmed the car used in the attack in London "was one of ours".

    The company said it alerted police as soon as they realised the car belonged to them.

    "Yesterday an act of terrorism tried to silence our democracy but today we meet as normal," Prime Minister Theresa May tells MPs. 

    "We are not afraid and our resolve will never waver in the face of terrorism. We meet here in the oldest of all parliaments because we know democracy and the values it entails will also prevail.

    "A terrorist came to the place where people of nationalities and cultures celebrate what it means to be free. This was an attack on free people everywhere," she said, adding that the attack "sickened us all".

    Ahead of the prime minister's statement, the Speaker John Bercow makes a statement to MPs, saying:

    "Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and friends of the victims of this outrage."

    He says books of condolence will be opened and he thanks all the security staff in Parliament for allowing MPs to meet "undeterred".

    The time for this morning's minute's silence was chosen in honour of murdered police officer Keith Palmer's shoulder number - 933. 

    The minute's silence was held nationwide at 09:33 GMT, including in the Palace of Westminster and at New Scotland Yard, to commemorate those who were killed in Wednesday's attack.

    He said the agency's operational response is "fully mobilised in support of the police".

    The adjournment debate has been tabled by Charles Walker, to ask about the situation at an incinerator plant in his constituency.
