    Following a blissful looking white wedding in Cornwall, almost 60 wedding guests have found themselves stuck at the venue overnight thanks to Storm Emma.

    The wedding, which took place at Netherton Farm near Upton Cross in Cornwall has been hit by the harsh weather, leaving guests unable to leave.

    Luckily from photos, the happy couple - Kelvin and Jenny Wyatt - still seem to be enjoying their special day.

    Bridesmaid Amy said: "We're stuck at the venue for the night and people will be sleeping on the floor, but we're all in good spirits and have lots of supplies!"

    A Greggs delivery driver has been praised for handing out cakes, pasties and doughnuts to stranded motorists on the A1 in Northumberland.

    Jon Gowing was also stuck so, rather than letting his load go to waste as it would have done after a certain amount of time, he shared the goodies with other people who had been stuck for hours at Lindisfarne.

    Les Goff, another stranded motorist who helped Mr Gowing hand out the treats, said: "He was a top guy."

    Roisin Currie from Greggs said the firm was "incredibly proud" of Mr Gowing.

  3. Big Issue walk called offpublished at 18:25 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2018

    A sponsored walk aiming to raise money for the Big Issue Foundation has been called off due to the extreme weather.

    The walk was planned for Friday night in London and it was hoped it would raise £100,000.

    The charity is now organising a virtual fundraising event called The Big Step Challenge, in which people aim to take 10,000 steps each day between 12th-15th March, recording their progress on their phones.

    Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson said the armed forces stand "ready to help" with the weather still causing major disruption.

    He said: "We've already seen the RAF helping doctors and nurses get to some of the most vulnerable people.

    "Our service personnel are showing great dedication and a spirited sense of duty as they support local authorities and keep the British people safe."

    As snow and ice shut down many of the roads across the region, it seems people are becoming more creative with their modes of transport.

    This footage of a man skiing down Ashburton high street shows locals adapting well to the new conditions.

    Already schools across the country are announcing they will be closed tomorrow, including 91 in Buckinghamshire, 177 in Cornwall, 104 Derbyshire and more than 90 in Lincolnshire.

    Hundreds of Schools in Wales are expected to stay shut after more than 1,000 closed on Thursday, along with hundreds across East Lothian, Dundee, the Forth Valley and Angus in Scotland.

    Check your council's website to see if you'll be affected.

    Trials at 15 courts in Scotland have been cancelled for Friday due to the extreme weather conditions caused by Storm Emma.

    The Scottish Courts and Tribunal Service made the decision amid safety fears, and the hearings will now take place at a later date.

    Courts affected include Glasgow, Edinburgh, Livingston, Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline, Hamilton, Alloa, Stirling, Falkirk, Paisley, Dumbarton, Airdrie, Greenock, Perth and Coatbridge.

    A baby girl has been born by the side of the road during a snow storm.

    Daniella Waring went into labour this morning at home in Catterick, North Yorkshire, so she and her husband Andrew set off for hospital.

    Heading across the A66, they ran into heavy snow and realised they did not have time to get to hospital.

    They pulled over on to the side of the road in County Durham and Daniella gave birth before paramedics, who were driving up and down the road looking for her, arrived.

    Both mother and baby were "happy and warm" when they were eventually located at Elton by a response car.

    After being checked over at the scene, they were driven to hospital by a North East Ambulance Service crew.

    The newborn girl has been named Sienna.

    A lorry driver has been rescued from his stranded truck, after enduring a night on the Woodhead Pass in the Peak District, a mountain rescue team said.

    Spokesman Paul Besley said the trucker was "not in any real danger" but did need food and drink.

    The rescue team spent most of Thursday checking dozens of abandoned cars on Pennine roads.

    On Tuesday the team helped a family whose car had got stuck while they were trying to get to hospital with a child having breathing difficulties.

    A seven-year-old girl has been killed as a car hit a house in Cornwall.

    The Nissan car went into the house in Bodrigan Road, in Looe, at about 14:30 GMT, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

    The girl, who was thought to be a pedestrian, died at the scene. Officers said the girl's next-of-kin had been informed.

    Nearby roads have been shut while emergency service crews deal with the incident. Drivers have been told to avoid the area.

  17. Travel update: Widespread disruption on UK roadspublished at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2018

    Storm Emma continues to cause snow delays and traffic accidents across the UK.

    England:

    • The A43 remains closed in both directions between the A343 in Highclere and the A303 in Bullington, following a serious collision this morning
    • The A3 Hindhead Tunnel is closed northbound between #A333 and #A283 #Milford due to an overturned lorry
    • The M66 northbound between junctions one and two, external remains gridlocked following a road traffic collision, but is expected to clear between 19:45 GMT and 20:00 GMT
    • Snow continues to cause severe delays on the A66 eastbound between the A685 and the junction with the A1, where all lanes remain closed
    • Similar delays exist on the A1 southbound, external and northbound, external, as well as the M66 southbound exit slip at junction J4. All three are expected to clear at 19:00 GMT

    Scotland:

    • Traffic Scotland , externalsays the M80 is closed southbound between junction 4a Low Wood and junction 9 Bannockburn
    • The A68 southbound is closed after Carter Bar, where long delays are to be expected

    Wales:

    • In the north, Traffic Wales, external say snow has closed the A44 in both directions from Aberystwyth to Llangurig, and is not expected to re-open until 22:30 GMT
    • The A470 is shut in both directions between Gellilydan to Ffestiniog
    • In south Wales, the A4060 remains closed in both directions between Dowlais to Pentrebach following a jack-knifed lorry

    Northern Ireland:

    • In Belfast the traffic signals on the B7 Knock Road and Glen Road are all out of service

    The Radio 1 presenter has been taking part in a #Gregathlon to raise money for Sport Relief.

    The DJ had been due to climb Ben Nevis on Friday, but the extreme weather conditions meant a decision was taken to postpone his 'Pedal to the Peaks' challenge.

    On Wednesday he managed to summit Scafell pike in the Lake District, despite heavy snow.
