    BBC Monitoring
    The world through its media

Government-run Rossiya 1 TV says: "The Brits have given the US president a cold welcome at mass demonstrations."

According to the TV channel, the British government "doesn't hide the fact that it fears a thaw in Russian-US relations, and everything has been done to make the US president feel good, but the demonstrations can poison the atmosphere of his visit."

In a report captioned "British hospitality", Gazprom-owned NTV says: “Great Britain is far from happy to see the White House boss.

"Britons have greeted the US leader with protests, holding placards.”

Her brother Adam, 14, said the president "needs to do more" to stop school shootings while their mother Hope said the family "wanted to show our solidarity" with the protesters.

Sarah Holbrook (pictured below) has come from Fleet in Hampshire to protest the president's visit after seeing scenes of children being separated from their parents on the Mexican border.

The 25-year-old said: "I've always been anti-Trump but that was the last straw for me. It is the first time I've wanted to come out and protest against him."

James Carafano, who led the Trump transition team at the department of Homeland Security, tells Jo Coburn on the Daily Politics that the US president simply gave a factual answer to The Sun's question about trade deals.

"It would be very difficult for the US and UK to do a trade deal outside a hard Brexit," he says.

Critics of the prime minister's Brexit plan say staying too close to EU regulations will make it impossible to strike new free trade deals with countries like the US.

Mr Carafano says there is "enormous bipartisan support" in the US for a trade deal with the UK.

  13. How is Trump's trip different from a state visit?published at 12:32 British Summer Time 13 July 2018

Donald and Melania TrumpImage source, REUTERS/Kevin Lamarque

With a lavish banquet and lots of pomp and ceremony, Donald Trump's trip may seem like a state visit - but it is not. Instead, it has been described as a working visit.

Although she will meet him at Windsor Castle today, the Queen is not hosting the trip, neither is she accommodating Mr Trump and his wife at Buckingham Palace - nor staging a lunch for the couple or holding a state banquet in their honour.

And no other members of the royal family will call in to Windsor Castle to meet the president when he sits down to tea with the Queen, although there will be a guard of honour for him.

Theresa May had announced the US president would be given the honour of a state visit when she became the first international leader to visit Mr Trump following his inauguration. It took just seven days after Trump took office for the invitation to be made, compared with 758 days for Mr Obama and 978 for George W Bush.

But the decision soon became mired in controversy and when the state visit was not mentioned in last year's Queen's speech, commentators concluded it had been dropped for the foreseeable future.
