  1. Police were warned of Trump paraglider protestpublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 14 July 2018

Police were given up to 15 minutes notice of the paraglider protest at Turnberry following the US president's arrival at the Ayrshire golf course, BBC News has been told.

The paraglider from the environmental group Greenpeace is believed to have been within 100 metres of Donald Trump.

    Quote Message

It wasn't dangerous at all. We let the police know about 10 or 15 minutes before that we were coming in."

    Ben Stewart, Greenpeace spokesman

Mr Stewart said: "We phoned them, we had someone on the police line who informed them. They knew we were coming in and we've done this kind of thing a few times before."

"We thought it was important that the president actually saw a real-life protester.

"There's tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of people on the streets around the UK. He's gone from place to place in his helicopter kind of like a visiting dignitary in Afghanistan, not wanting to see any real people.

"So we put a protester over his head with a big banner at a golf course saying #Trump you're below par' because he is probably the worst president ever."

It prompted Mr Trump to say it made him "feel unwelcome" in the city, on his second day of a four-day UK visit.

Campaigners confirmed the blimp will fly in the Meadows, where a protest march against the US presidents ends, from around noon.

An Edinburgh City Council spokeswoman: "The council, Police Scotland and the Civil Aviation Authority were happy to give it the go-ahead as there were no security concerns."

    Brian Taylor

Police are reminding us that this is not a fortress... the hotel in fact is open to other guests.

There's a wedding this weekend. I'm sure there will be golfers out by now - certainly I saw golfers yesterday.

It's a bit of a game of tig going on here.

You have sundry protesters trying to get in or as close as they possibly can to president of the US who is staying at the resort, which he happens to own, and very many police and other officials are trying to prevent them from doing so.

  13. Trumps spend night at Scottish golf resortpublished at 09:58 British Summer Time 14 July 2018

Welcome to day two of our coverage of Donald Trump in the UK

The US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania have spent the first night of their UK visit at Turnberry Hotel on Scotland's Ayrshire coast.

Mr Trump is expected to play golf at Turnberry, the links course that he bought four years ago.

On Friday he met Prime Minister Theresa May at Chequers and The Queen at Windsor.

The White House says that the Scottish part of his visit is "private" and comes ahead of his scheduled meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.

  14. An eventful daypublished at 20:36 British Summer Time 13 July 2018

Now President Trump has arrived in Scotland, his day in the spotlight of UK politics is nearly at a end.

And it certainly has been eventful, beginning with some dramatic newspaper headlines following his interview with The Sun in which appeared to rip up the diplomatic playbook by criticising Theresa May's Brexit plans and suggesting a US-UK trade deal was off.

It was then on to what seemed likely to be an awkward meeting at the PM's country residence, Chequers. But Mr Trump ended up saying a "great" deal could be on after all while lavishing praise on Mrs May at a press conference the BBC's North America editor says was like watching the Wacky Races.

BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg saw it as a difficult day for Mrs May - but not a disaster, while our Reality Check team has assessed just what challenges lie ahead for a UK-US trade deal.

Mr Trump and First Lady Melania ended their two-day working visit to the UK by having tea with the Queen at Windsor Castle.

Away from official business, tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets in cities across the UK, to demonstrate against President Trump's visit. The US president will also find protests in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Ayrshire, where he is spending the weekend at his Turnberry golf resort.
