The prime minister isn't going to be in office for much longer, so the talks between Theresa May and Donald Trump will be an unusual event.

He is going to be looking over her shoulder at who is coming next. Theresa May really can't decide anything.

It is a curious 'limbo land' meeting they are going to have.

Mr Trump might raise Chinese firm Huawei, Mrs May could bring up Iran - but it will be a slightly phoney meeting.

The real drama will come at the press conference.

Mr Trump shoots from the hip and for Mrs May, this could be her last major news conference.

    Emily ThornberryImage source, PA Wire

Speaking to Radio 4's Today programme, shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry says: "Of course we do business with Donald Trump, and it's not that we're boycotting Donald Trump."

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was invited to last night's state banquet but did not attend.

"If he wants to see us, we're more than happy to see him," Ms Thornberry says. "But we don't think that it's appropriate for him to have a state visit and we never have. A state visit is an honour, and we don't think this president deserves an honour."
