  6. Trump 'wants the pomp and ceremony'published at 07:30 British Summer Time 3 June 2019

The president is more interested in the "pomp and ceremony, in tea and state banquets with the royals” rather than interfering with British politics, according to Nick Robinson on BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

But before Mr Trump even set foot on British soil, he told the UK to back Boris Johnson, hire Nigel Farage and sue the EU before leaving without a deal.

  7. Pageantry and protest to comepublished at 07:19 British Summer Time 3 June 2019

The first day of the state visit will be dominated by colour and pageantry at Buckingham Palace.

The Queen's welcome may not be echoed across the land though, as many protesters are expected to take to the streets to express their opposition to Donald Trump's presidency.

The president will fly by helicopter to attend almost all engagements, keeping well away from any protests.
