A moment for the nation to let its hair downpublished at 22:44 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

After the the pomp and ceremony of yesterday's Coronation, tonight's concert has felt more like a moment for the nation to let its hair down and blow off steam.

The variety of the line-up and the fact that most acts were limited to one song, meant the show remained engaging and kept its momentum throughout.

Moments of tenderness - such as The Piano star Lucy's rendition of Bach - were balanced by storming sets from Lionel Richie and Katy Perry. Even Princess Charlotte was singing along.

Winnie The Pooh, Kermit and Miss Piggy provided comic relief, while Paloma Faith soundtracked perhaps the most memorable moment of the night - lighting up landmarks around the UK.

The spoken-word interludes nodded towards causes close to King Charles's heart, and Prince William paid a touching tribute to his father and grandmother, who he said was "up there, fondly keeping an eye on us".

Finally, Take That - albeit only three-fifths of them - delivered a rousing end to the night. Performing together for the first time since 2019, their songs Greatest Day and Shine were fitting for a national celebration such as this, and their 1995 hit Never Forget was the perfect song to close the evening.

Moving away from the concert, we've just received an update from the Metropolitan Police over the number of people who have been arrested this weekend in protests linked to the coronation.

The force has come under scrutiny for what the culture secretary described as tough arrests and London Mayor Sadiq Khan has called for clarity from the Met's leaders.

In an updated statement this evening, the Met says 64 arrests have been made for various offences, including breach of the peace and conspiracy to cause a public nuisance.

The Met says four people who were arrested have been charged and will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court later this month.

The trio take a bow, thank the audience and orchestra as the show ends.

We're properly excited now because there is quite simply no situation in life that cannot be improved by the arrival of Katy Perry.

Wearing a golden dress, the US pop star launches into Roar, one of her best-known hits, as the face of a tiger lights up above her.

Princess Charlotte sings along - surely the ultimate seal of approval - as one of the biggest names on tonight's line-up gets everyone in the crowd to cheer and wave their flags.

Perry then segues into Firework, a song that surely must give her a huge boost in royalties every November, which she dedicates to the King. "Thank you for bringing out the firework in so many young people," she says.

  15. Winnie the Pooh and Piglet talk of King's love of red squirrelspublished at 21:47 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

Just before Katy Perry went onstage, there was another heartening moment: A cartoon of Winnie the Pooh talking to Piglet about King Charles III's love for red squirrels and the names he gives them played.

Winnie the Pooh then opened a door holding a balloon which displays "King Charles III Coronation" on the front.

A tender and heartfelt message from Prince Williampublished at 21:45 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

    Sean Coughlan
    Royal correspondent

Earlier, we saw a tender and heartfelt message from Prince William, saying how proud he was of his “Pa” and also remembering his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, saying “I know she’s up there, fondly keeping an eye on us”.

There was also an element of taking on the baton here too.

At last year’s Platinum Jubilee concert it was Charles who, as Prince of Wales, gave thanks to his mother. Now it’s William as Prince of Wales who is giving the vote of thanks, stepping into the role of heir.

Prince William’s message was about one of the big themes of the Coronation, the “pledge of service”.

And that included people of all “faiths and beliefs” and those working in education and health services.

We are into the final stages of the concert with only a handful of acts still to come.

One of those is British classical-soul pianist Alexis Ffrench who is playing alongside singer-songwriter Zak Abel – who was booked at the last minute to replace Freya Ridings.

Ffrench performs Guiding Light as a voiceover of King Charles III plays again - this time his remarks about his views on the environment, nature and looking after our planet.

Ffrench segues into a separate performance with Abel as they sing a rendition of Don't You Forget About Me by Simple Minds.

  20. Attention turns to protecting natural worldpublished at 21:36 British Summer Time 7 May 2023

Fashion designer Stella McCartney has just been giving a spoken-word performance paying tribute to the natural world.

She says the King has been "shining a spotlight on conservation and protecting our planet" for decades.

And, she says, the work of "healing our planet" must be a cause that unites us.
