To be honest, we're not sure if anything will top the sketch Hugh Bonneville did with Kermit and Miss Piggy earlier, but Lionel Richie certainly gave them a run for their money.

The legendary singer performed Easy, as a sea of smartphone lights and union flags were waved across the audience.

Richie is at the top of his game and one of the biggest names on the bill, and as a result he is one of the few artists allowed to play two songs tonight.

As he launched into his second track, All Night Long, he got up from the piano and darted around the stage, bouncing off the energy from the crowd.

Even the royal family were on their feet.

If you've never watched Netflix's Sex Education, you may be unfamiliar with actor Ncuti Gatwa, but you'll certainly be familiar with him by the end of the year when he takes over the starring role in Doctor Who.

Tonight, he appeared alongside My Neighbour Totoro star Mei Mac, and the pair delivered snippets of Shakespeare as the orchestra and choir behind them sang Somewhere.

Their performance was followed by a rendition of Back Prelude in C Major, performed by Lucy - the star of Channel 4 series The Piano.

One of the most touching television moments of the past year was when Lucy, who is blind and has autism, stunned viewers at home with her musical talent. Tonight's performance is no less affecting.

Not long ago, Chinese pianist Lang Lang took to the stage with singer Nicole Scherzinger for a performance of Reflection from Disney’s Mulan.

Pussycat Dolls scholars such as myself may be disappointed that Scherzinger only performed a duet tonight, rather than headlining the entire concert on her own, but we’ll put that to one side in the name of patriotism.

After a beautiful piano solo from Lang Lang, he introduced Scherzinger, who appeared in a beautiful blue flowing gown. It matches the eastern facade of Windsor Castle behind her, which has been bathed in blue for the performance.

“It’s a beautiful song when you listen to the lyrics,” Scherzinger earlier said of Reflection, which she had never performed until tonight.
