Highways England say the M62 is going to be closed westbound at junction 19 with traffic diverted to rejoin the motorway at the other side of the junction.
"It is what we call an 'up and over' operation'," said a spokesman.
There are now13 severe flood warnings for Yorkshire, external up from eight earlier today, according to the Environment Agency.
Most of the warnings apply to the River Aire in Leeds and River Calder in West Yorkshire.

Electricity North West has restored power to 17,500 properties in Rochdale following severe flooding at the area's main substation.
Image source, ENWEngineers are working to get power back on to the 2,500 properties that remain off supply after there was a power cut at 10:00.
About 30,000 buildings are usually supplied with electricity from the main substation in Rochdale but ENW said engineers managed to shift 10,000 properties from the substation an “hour before the flooding hit" to secure supplies.
North Yorkshire Police urge motorists to "only make journeys that are absolutely necessary and under no circumstances ignore road closure signs".

There are a number of flood warnings and alerts across North Yorkshire - in addition, there are also numerous road closures.
Superintendent Dave Hannan added: "It is impossible to judge the depth of flood water and you could put yourself and passengers at risk if you attempt it."
