    Thousands of people gathered in Beverley's Saturday Market to watch the ceremonial start to the race.

    Crowds and bunting lined the route, local choirs sang and then there were the daleks...

    After leaving Beverley, the race took the riders to Market Weighton, Bubwith, Tadcaster and Wetherby.

    Lots of people dressed up for the event, put up the bunting and decorated their bicycles in yellow and blue.

    Our favourite though has to be this effort from Hallie in Cherry Burton - a true Yorkshire bicycle!

    Just 26k from the finish line, Bradley Wiggins pulled out.

    The riders were cheered all the way and the towns and villages they raced through certainly got into the spirit. Tadcaster celebrated with cakes!

    After an incredible show of strength and endurance the winner of today's stage was the German rider Dylan Groenewegen from the Lotto NL Jumbo Team.

    He completed the distance of 186 km in 5 hours 9 minutes and 11 seconds.

    Just two more stages and 334 km to go then!

    Tomorrow, the women's Tour de Yorkshire departs tomorrow from her hometown of Otley in Yorkshire.

    The 27-year-old said: "It's fantastic to have the opportunity to race at home so I wouldn't miss it."

    "I never expected to compete at home in a UCI women's race - let alone as world champion. It's my first race in the UK in the rainbow jersey and it'll be wonderful."

    And so the First Stage of the Tour de Yorkshire has come to an end in Settle, North Yorkshire. 

    The winner of today's stage is the German rider Dylan Groenewegen from the Lotto NL Jumbo Team. 

    He completed the the 186 km distance in 5 hours 9 minutes and 11 seconds.

    At this stage of things the times for second and third place are being posted as the same as the winners.

    I think we'll need a photograph to whittle it down to tenths of a second.

    Tour de Yorkshire are now saying Bradley Wiggins is out of the whole race not just stage 1.

    He pulled out with 26km to go to the end of stage 1.
