    The leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Stephen Parnaby, has told the BBC they will be bidding again to either host the start or the finish of the Tour de Yorkshire next year.

    The race is starting in Beverley this year, but the riders will head through other parts of East Yorkshire today, such as Market Weighton, Holme-on-Spalding-Moor and Bubwith.

    Over the three days of this year's event, the cycle race will cover a total of 515.5km (320 miles), passing through parts of East, North, South and West Yorkshire.

    Here are the race timings for each day:

    Friday: Beverley to Settle, external

    Le Tour de Yorkshire has two official starting lines - one is for the ceremonial start, the other is the official one.

    There's this one in Beverley's Saturday Market.

    From here a group of schoolchildren will lead out the riders. 

    They won't be going very fast and there'll be lots of waving at the crowds.

    In 2014, we enjoyed the opening stages of the 2014 Tour de France, external in Yorkshire; last year it was the inaugural Tour De Yorkshire, external.

    And it seems our love of cycling is here to stay.

    Organisers have been busy in Beverley, putting up metal barriers ahead of the start of the Tour de Yorkshire.

  19. Stage One: Tour returns to Beverley for race startpublished at 08:06 British Summer Time 29 April 2016

    Beverley played host to the 2015 Tour and riders will parade around the town before heading to the racecourse for the official start at 12:00.

    They will then weave through the Wolds, crossing the A64 at Tadcaster before heading north past Wetherby and into the Yorkshire Dales.

    Once the cyclists leave Pateley Bridge there is a tough climb at Greenhow Hill. It is then downhill from Grassington to Gargrave and along the A65 before a finish in Settle.

    • Total stage length: 185km
    • 2 x sprint points (Bubwith, Giggleswick)
    • 1 x King of the Mountain (Greenhow Hill)

    Welcome to our live coverage of the second annual Tour de Yorkshire cycle race on a very chilly Friday.

    Stage One, external of the three-day event will see the riders set off from Beverley in East Yorkshire at 12:00 and finish in Settle in North Yorkshire at about 16:30. 

    We'll be bringing you updates from along the route until 18:00 and we'd love to see your pictures.
