    A couple from Cleckheaton near Bradford have been banned from keeping ponies and donkeys for life after keeping them in appalling conditions.

    Malcolm and Angela Wood of Muffit Lane in Gomersal pleaded guilty to nine offences under the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

    They kept three ponies and five donkeys in conditions so bad that some of them couldn't even walk. One donkey and a pony had to be put down.

    An 18-year-old man has been charged with murder after a girl was found dead in Dinnington.

    The body of 16-year-old Leonne Weeks was found on Monday morning on a pathway, she had multiple stab wounds.

    A pub in Huddersfield has narrowly escaped a disaster after a car was stopped crashing into it by a lamp post.

    The Jules Verne pub, on Westgate, was left without a mark after the car headed towards it and hit the lamp post.

    A protest's taken place in Leeds as Donald Trump prepares to be sworn in as the 45th American president.

    About 50 anti-Trump protesters from the Leeds branch of Stand Up To Racism attended.

    This is the Doncaster man who punched a teacher, causing his death.

    Blue Horrobin, 23, has now been convicted of manslaughter for killing PE teacher Lewis Siddall in an unprovoked attack in Doncaster town centre in August 2015.

    Mr Siddall had been out with friends when he was punched by Horrobin at the VDKA bar, external in the town.

    Horrobin, of Highfield Road, Askern, will be sentenced on 20 February.

    A 20m wide banner has been dropped over one of York's main bridges with the message "Build Bridges Not Walls". 

    Protestors against Donald Trump have done the same across the world. 

    Gabriel Stewart, who organised the event on Ouse Bridge, says it's a peaceful demonstration.

    A fundraising appeal to help the family of Katie Rough, who died in York nearly two weeks ago, has reached its target of £25,000.

    Katie was found injured in the Woodthorpe area on 9 January and died later in hospital.

    A 15-year-old girl has been charged with her murder and is due to reappear at Leeds Crown Court next month. 

    The crowdfund was set up by Maggie Jackson, from York, who says she didn't know the family but felt she needed to do something to help them.

    More on the news that Australian Geoff Toovey, former coach of Manly Sea Eagles, has been named as coach of the reformed Bradford RL side.

    Toovey won 18 Australia caps in total. That's a tally that was artificially boosted by the fact he played for the ARL-loyal Manly at the time of the Super League war but he was a class act.

    As a player and coach he's been a one club man so far.

    Coincidentally, his first competitive match in charge of Manly took place just a few miles down the road from Bradford - the 2012 World Club Challenge against Leeds at Headingley.

    Toovey's appointment appears to be out of the blue. He has no working knowledge of the English game, especially at Championship level.

    But the link is Bulls' new co-owner Graham Lowe, another former Manly coach and legend.

    Former Manly Sea Eagles coach Geoff Toovey has been appointed as the new coach of the reformed Bradford team.

    The 47-year-old Australian spent three years as coach of the NRL side before leaving in 2015.

    He replaces compatriot Rohan Smith, who left the club on Tuesday by mutual consent.

    Bradford Bulls were liquidated at the start of the month and the new club will start the Championship season with a 12-point deduction.

    This is the scene where a fatal collision took place in Doncaster earlier this month at the junction of Warmsworth Road and Waverley Avenue.

    A 27-year-old man died , externalat the scene after being struck by a lorry at about 22:45 on Saturday 7 January. 

    Police think a group of youths at nearby shops may be able to help piece together what happened and are asking for them to come forward.

  13. New deal on offer in North Yorkshire firefighters disputepublished at 12:51

    A new offer is being considered by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) in North Yorkshire in a bid to end a bitter dispute over replacing a number of fire engines with smaller vehicles.

    Some firefighters in Scarborough have been sent home without pay this week by North Yorkshire Fire Auuthority for refusing to drive the new response vehicles.

    The FBU says the new Tactical Response Vehicles are unsafe.

    The Fire Authority says the vehicles do not pose any risk and the FBU is holding it to "ransom".

    Peterhead power station and the White Rose scheme in North Yorkshire were in the running to win the £1bn contract before it was cancelled in 2015.

    It would have seen emissions from heavy industry stored permanently underground.

    The National Audit Office has been looking at why the project was axed.

    After news the Sheffield region has the lowest pay in Britain, one MP says he's going to raise the issue in parliament.

    The foundation set up to back the causes that murdered Batley and Spen MP Jo Cox was passionate about has raised £1.95m.

    The Jo Cox Foundation has tweeted this morning to thank people for donating to the fund, external.

    Mrs Cox was shot and stabbed by 52-year-old Thomas Mair in Birstall on 16 June last year, a week before the EU referendum vote.
