Newcastle-under-Lyme: 'Most likely to change hands'published at 05:11 British Summer Time 9 June 2017
05:11 BST 9 June 2017Emma Thomas
Political reporter, BBC Radio StokeIf I was a gambler, I’d suggest this is the seat in our patch most likely to change hands. (There is a recount underway).
In 2015 Labour’s Paul Farrelly won by just 650 votes, that's around 1%.
Since then he campaigned against Brexit, opposing 65% of his constituents and voted against triggering article 50.
His biggest challenger is the Conservative Owen Meredith, a Keele Graduate who now works in publishing.
However, there is a big student population, so Labour’s education policies might prove popular.
Newcastle-under-Lyme is one of the constituencies where no female candidates have stood since boundary changes in 2010.
Shrewsbury: Gains for Labour's 'exhilarated' candidatepublished at 05:08 British Summer Time 9 June 2017
05:08 BST 9 June 2017Labour's Dr Laura Davies added around 7,000 votes in Shrewsbury, compared with 2015 and cut the Conservative majority by a third.
She said she was "exhilarated" by the result there and the results around the country.
She can now get back to her 15-month old baby, who she points out, has spent half his life on the campaign trail.

04:57 BST 9 June 2017Rob Mayor
Black Country Political Reporter, BBC WMLabour's Ian Austin defends a majority of just over 4,181. On the face of it that seems healthy, but UKIP took 24% of the vote in 2015.
If those voters float to the Conservatives' Les Jones, then Mr Austin could well be in trouble.
In 2015 the Conservative campaign was hit by scandal and their original candidate dropped out after questions about an alleged deal with the English Defence League. This time they've had a clear run.
Mr Austin has been an outspoken critic of Jeremy Corbyn and has run a campaign based on his record as a local MP, distancing himself from the manifesto.
Some polling suggests the seat could be decided by less than 1%, roughly the mark reached by the Liberal Democrats and Greens last time, so votes for smaller parties could have a big influence on the outcome.
Dudley North is one of the constituencies where no female candidates have stood since boundary changes in 2010 (including by-elections).
