    Conservative Eddie Hughes has paid tribute to his predecessor 83-year-old David Winnick (pictured), who lost his Labour seat to the Tories by 2,601 votes after serving Walsall North since 1979.

    Gareth Snell, the man who beat UKIP's Paul Nuttall in the recent Stoke-on-Trent Central by-election, has won a majority of 3,897.

    The UKIP candidate only won 1,608 votes.

    The Conservatives have retained the North Shropshire seat with little difficulty.

    The prominent Brexit campaigner Owen Paterson has won a majority of 16,355.

    It's the sixth time he's been elected as the Member of Parliament there.

    After the election was called, the Green Party offered to support Labour by not fielding a candidate in the Telford constituency.

    They turned that offer down and might regret that now because the Greens received 898 votes and the margin of victory for the Conservatives was just 720.

    Preet Gill held the seat in Birmingham Edgbaston for Labour becoming the first female Sikh to be elected.

    Bhai Amrik Singh, Chair of the Sikh Federation said: "We are delighted to have the first Sikh woman MP in Preet Kaur Gill in Birmingham, Edgbaston.

    "She will be a fantastic MP, a credit to the Sikh community and an excellent role model."

    The seat had been held by Gisela Stuart who stepped down when the election was called.

    The victorious Shrewsbury candidate, Daniel Kawczynski says he hopes Theresa May stays on as the Conservative party leader.

    He did accept the campaign could have gone "a lot better" and said "questions would be raised" if the party fails to get a majority.

    Coincidentally, one of our reporters has spotted this on the notice board at the sports centre where the Shrewsbury result was announced.

    Turnout was 72.8% in Warwick and Leamington with Labour's Matt Western gaining 25,227 votes, a 1,206 majority over his Conservative rival Chris White.

    Mr Western's team tweeted: "7.6% swing! "Astonishing" - 68 on target list!! #LabourVictory".

    The Liberal Democrat candidate Nick Solman was third with 2,810 votes.
