  1. Community-run leisure centre faces £7k repair billpublished at 07:35 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2017

    A community-run leisure centre in South Yorkshire is facing a repair bill of more than £7,000 after the discovery of dry rot.

    Volunteers at the centre in Penistone say it's the first major issue they've faced since they saved the facility from closure in 2012.

    The rotting wood was discovered after a distinct odour started to flourish in the gym's cardio area and when part of the carpet was peeled back the extent of the damage was revealed (pictured above).

    The centre's volunteers are now appealing online, external to raise cash towards the repair bill.

    The facility has been kept open so far by income from classes, grants and charitable donations.

    With the snow falling in Scarborough at the moment, it's no surprise that we've been told of the first school closure of the morning.

    Springhead Special School is closed to students today, however teachers are being told to go in.

    A caller to BBC Radio York says traffic is currently struggling to cope at Stepney Hill, just outside Scarborough. He says nobody can get up the road.

    Problems are also being reported on Seamer Road.

    There's a yellow "be aware" warning for ice and snow in Yorkshire this morning.

    Today will see sunny spells after a frosty start, but wintry showers spreading westwards during the day, with some snow accumulations, mainly over hills.

    A man charged with murdering his wife who was found stabbed to death at a house in Halifax earlier this week is due to appear in court later.

    Zbigniew Lasek, 35, is accused of killing his 36-year-old wife Monika Lasek, a Polish national.

    She was found dead by West Yorkshire Police officers at the property on Solstice Way last Sunday.

    Mrs Lasek is understood to have been living in the town for the last few years.

    Stormzy was named at last night's MOBO Awards ceremony in Leeds as Best Male Act, Best Grime Act and he won Best Album for Gang Signs & Prayer.

    The London star smashed into the mainstream this year with a number one album and top 10 single, Big for your Boots.

    The MOBOs ceremony, at Leeds' First Direct Arena, was dominated by male winners, with Stefflon Don the only woman to pick up an award, being named as Best Female Act.
