Community-run leisure centre faces £7k repair billpublished at 07:35 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2017
A community-run leisure centre in South Yorkshire is facing a repair bill of more than £7,000 after the discovery of dry rot.
Volunteers at the centre in Penistone say it's the first major issue they've faced since they saved the facility from closure in 2012.
The rotting wood was discovered after a distinct odour started to flourish in the gym's cardio area and when part of the carpet was peeled back the extent of the damage was revealed (pictured above).
The centre's volunteers are now appealing online, external to raise cash towards the repair bill.
The facility has been kept open so far by income from classes, grants and charitable donations.
