  1. Three arrests after incident in Kirby Mispertonpublished at 14:00 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2018

    Three people have been arrested after a tanker was stopped as it travelled through the North Yorkshire village of Kirby Misperton - close to a site where fracking is due to begin.

    Police say a 28-year-old man climbed on top of the tanker and didn't come down for three hours. He was arrested on suspicion of tampering with a vehicle.

    A 56-year-old man also climbed onto the tanker for a shorter period of time and was arrested on suspicion of obstructing the highway.

    Meanwhile, a 27-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of obstructing the highway after she stood in front of a vehicle.

    Officers say the protest blocked the main road through the village and a team with specialist equipment had to be brought in.

    Supt Alisdair Dey says: We will support the right of people to assemble and protest peacefully, but once the balance tips from peaceful protest to deliberate, unlawful acts that cause unreasonable disruption to the local community, then we will take action."

  2. Manchester Arena attack: 'Hero' admits theft from victimspublished at 13:47 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2018

    A homeless man who now lives in Halifax who stole a purse and a phone from victims of the Manchester Arena attack has admitted theft.

    Chris Parker, 33, was initially dubbed a hero after claiming he had comforted a seriously injured girl.

    At Manchester Crown Court, he also admitted fraud after using a debit card from the purse.

    His trial was due to start on Tuesday but was delayed after he failed to appear. He was found hiding in a loft in Yorkshire and arrested.

    The judge said sentencing would be later this month and a custodial sentence is "most likely".

    Figures released today show that 14 people were arrested for assaulting police officers in North Yorkshire between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day.

    As a result of these arrests, 11 crimes were recorded, with six of these assaults leading to officers being injured, according to North Yorkshire Police.

    New Huddersfield Town signing Terence Kongolo has revealed he opted to sign for the Terriers over a move to French side Bordeaux.

    The 23-year-old arrives at the John Smith's Stadium on loan from French champions Monaco until the end of the season and can play as a centre-back or left-back.

    Police in Sheffield say they can only properly tackle knife crime with the help of pubs and clubs in the city.

    Five people were injured, two seriously during an an incident at Crystal Bar on Carver Street on New Year's Eve.

    A family from Barnsley say they want to work to break the stigma of mental health after their daughter took her own life.

    19-year-old Olivia Faulkner had been working as a dancer in London.

    She died in November, now her family has set up a foundation, external to try to raise awareness and encourage others to speak out.

    It has taken over ten years, more than three hundred glass panels were removed but now York Minster's Great East Window is fully restored.

    The 600 year old window is the largest single expanse of medieval stained glass in the country. It has been painstakingly removed and lovingly restored by the team at York Glaziers Trust.

    The project has cost £11m and now the final panel of glass has been restored and is in place.

    The stunning window was originally completed in 1408 by glazier John Thornton. The Chapter of York paid him £56 for the job.

  10. Sheffield hospitals NOT cancelling non-urgent procedurespublished at 11:53 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2018

    Hospitals in Sheffield are not cancelling outpatient appointments despite permission to do so from NHS England.

    The decision to relax rules on cancellations was made centrally in order to free up resources to concentrate on emergency care.

    However the trust in Sheffield says it will not be scrapping appointments in general.

    They say they will contact patients directly if their appointment or operation is cancelled.

    Kirsten Major, Deputy Chief Executive of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals trust said: "We are reviewing our position several times a day and based on this we have decided not to routinely cancel all non-urgent operations or appointments at this time.

    A Hillsborough man has been jailed for possessing firearm ammunition when he was banned.

    Peter Codman of Oakland Road, 35, pleaded guilty and was yesterday sentenced to 18 months.

    Det Con Ryan Griffiths of South Yorkshire Police said: “Codman was banned from possessing ammunition or firearms for five years, which he has breached and this has resulted in a custodial sentence.

    “I hope this highlights how seriously we take matters of armed criminality in South Yorkshire and that we take robust action to tackle this issue.”

    A man and woman in Dewsbury have been arrested and released after two-month-old baby died on New Year's Day.

    West Yorkshire Police say they were called to a house on Pildacre Lane just before 06:00 to "reports of an unwell child".

    The baby was rushed to hospital, but she was pronounced dead shortly after.

    A 26-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of neglect over the child's death but have both been released pending further investigation.

    Bin crews in Bradford have been told to tip bins over after they have been emptied to stop them from being blown away by high winds caused by Storm Eleanor.

    The council is also asking people to pull their wheelie bins back off the road as soon as possible.

    The body of a man was found on a motorway embankment in West Yorkshire yesterday afternoon.

    An articulated skip wagon was found near the body with the engine still running.

    It happened just after 14:00 at the slip road for junction 25 of the M62 eastbound.

    The man - who police say was in his 40s - was treated by paramedics at the scene but was pronounced dead.

    Officers say they are trying to work out what happened to him and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

    They say they aren't looking for anyone else in connection with the death.

    The road through Kirby Misperton has been blocked after two people climbed onto a lorry as it was driven through the village.

    Police say they climbed onto the top of a tanker near the roundabout in the centre of the village. Anti fracking protestors are still outside Third Energy's site on the outskirts of the village where work is under way to prepare for fracking.

    Specialist police teams are dealing with the incident.
