Three arrests after incident in Kirby Mispertonpublished at 14:00 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2018
Three people have been arrested after a tanker was stopped as it travelled through the North Yorkshire village of Kirby Misperton - close to a site where fracking is due to begin.
Police say a 28-year-old man climbed on top of the tanker and didn't come down for three hours. He was arrested on suspicion of tampering with a vehicle.
A 56-year-old man also climbed onto the tanker for a shorter period of time and was arrested on suspicion of obstructing the highway.
Meanwhile, a 27-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of obstructing the highway after she stood in front of a vehicle.
Officers say the protest blocked the main road through the village and a team with specialist equipment had to be brought in.
Supt Alisdair Dey says: We will support the right of people to assemble and protest peacefully, but once the balance tips from peaceful protest to deliberate, unlawful acts that cause unreasonable disruption to the local community, then we will take action."
