  1. M1 closed after lorry overturnspublished at 15:33 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2018

    The M1 near Leeds has been closed southbound between J45 and J46 this afternoon after a lorry overturned.

    The air ambulance has landed at the scene but it not clear how many casualties there are - the northbound carriageway had to be closed so it could land.

    Traffic isn't expected to get back to normal until after 18:00 tonight.

  3. Funeral of stab victimpublished at 15:10 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2018

    The funeral is taking place in Skipton of Jodie Willsher.

    The 30-year-old died after being stabbed while working at a supermarket in the town.

    Hundreds of people have gathered both inside and outside Christ Church in Skipton.

    A man is under arrest and has been charged with murder.

  4. Men released following human trafficking raidspublished at 14:45 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2018

    A man from Sheffield who was arrested following a major operation to tackle human trafficking has been released.

    Raids were carried out yesterday at one address in the city and seven in Stockton-on-Tees.

    Cleveland Police said ten men aged between 18 and 47 were arrested on suspicion of different offences including rape, conspiracy to commit human trafficking, drugs offences and blackmail.

    They have now all been released under investigation.

    The funeral of Jodie Willsher is taking place today.

    The 30-year-old was stabbed to death just days before Christmas while working at a supermarket in Skipton.

    Two-hundred-and-fifty people are now inside Christ Church, Skipton with hundreds also gathered outside.

    Her family say it will be a celebration of her life and her husband Malcolm has asked those attending to wear something pink to remember his wife.

    The funeral is being led by Ruth Harris, the vicar of Christ Church:

    Neville Hord, who's 44, is in custody charged with her murder at an Aldi store in the town.

    The 2-1 loss meant they didn't go top of the National League North table.

    Manager, Simon Weaver says it's disappointing, but they have to move on.

    Two women and a man have been taken to hospital after a car crash in Huddersfield this morning.

    It happened on Wakefield Road at 08:30 when a black BMW crashed into a bus stop.

    The male driver and two women who were at the bus stop were taken to hospital for treatment, one was airlifted.

    Road closures are still in place and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

  8. Ferrybridge could become gas power stationpublished at 13:40 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2018

    The owners of Ferrybridge power station, which closed in 2016, have announced the site could reopen as a gas power station.

    SSE have announced that they have begun a consultation for the new gas-fired power station at the site of the original at the Ferrybridge "C" plant.

    The new site, catchily known as Ferrybridge "D", would produce 2,000MW of power, enough for two million homes.

    It's thought the old buildings will be demolished this year.

    The coal-fired power station closed after 50 years in service in March in 2016.

    The company said a projected loss of £100m over the next five years meant Ferrybridge was "no longer economical".

    Barnsley council has approved plans which will see £1m spent on improving the look of shops in villages around the borough.

    It's after discussions with local business leaders and community organisations around regenerating towns across the wider Barnsley area.

    Shop fronts will be improved in Goldthorpe, Cudworth, Royston, Athersley, Darfield, Dodworth, Grimethorpe, Lundwood, Mapplewell, Stairfoot and Thurnscoe.

    Local businesses will also be contributing towards the scheme.

    A new exhibition celebrating a hundred years since women got the vote opens at Harrogate's Mercer Art Gallery this weekend.

    Picturing Women features a mix of historic and contemporary art, pioneering photography, ink drawings, paintings and sculpture by female artists from the gallery's Harrogate Collection.

    Below is an example of some of the work which you'll be able to see.

    Jane Sellars is in charge of Cultural Services at Harrogate Borough Council and says the exhibition shows how, despite many social constraints, women artists went on to achieve very successful careers. The exhibition runs until June.

    A police investigation is under way after a firearm was found in York.

    It was discovered by a road worker on the Wiggington Road at around 10:00 this morning. Officers have recovered the weapon and an investigation has begun.

    A former teacher who had a sexual relationship with a sixth form pupil has been banned from teaching for life.

    Dr Howard Britton, 64, taught economics at fee-paying Queen Ethelburga's School, near York, between 2001 and 2005.

    A disciplinary panel heard his sexual relationship with the girl began on the day of her final exams.

    Dr Britton stopped teaching after the relationship ended due to his "disgust" at his behaviour, the panel heard.

    Between January and June he had accepted the girl's number, exchanged flirtatious and sexual text messages, discussed meeting her outside of school and invited her to his home. He also held hands with her and touched her legs.

    The relationship became sexual in June and July.

    A £56m expansion of the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster has been given the go-ahead.

    There'll be a new hotel - more animal enclosures as well as cafes and restaurants - but there are concerns about road safety.

    The new entrance will be on Hurst Lane which has two schools nearby.

    The plans also include more animal enclosures.

    National park bosses say they want a meeting with a fracking company over its plans for the North York Moors.

    Companies are not allowed to frack in national parks, but can drill underneath from outside.

    Ineos wants to do a survey on the moors before drilling test wells.

    The Park says it opposes any exploration to protect the landscape long-term.

    Police investigating an attack on a police car at the weekend in Harrogate say they've arrested and released a 17-year-old boy pending further investigations.

    The incident happened on Saturday night in the Bilton area of the town.

    Two Police Community Support Officers were in the car when a pipe smashed through the back window.

    They had been responding to a reports of youths throwing objects at cars passing the area.

    Leeds United defender Luke Ayling has been ruled out for the rest of the season after having ankle surgery.

    The 26-year-old suffered an injury in the 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest on New Year's Day.

    The former Bristol City player made 30 appearances in all competitions for Thomas Christensen's side this season.
