Two dead horses, both with ropes tied around their feet, have been discovered at a farm on the outskirts of York.
A grey mare and an emaciated young dark bay pony were found on land belonging to Eller Farm at Buttercrambe on Sunday.
The RSPCA fears the animals had been dragged from the back of a vehicle to be dumped.

Prosecuting those involved in riding off-road bikes anti-socially is a priority, according to West Yorkshire Police.

Measures to give extra support to help rough sleepers off the streets of York are to be examined by the city council.
There's a recommendation to offer 16 emergency beds, whatever the weather, from the beginning of November until the end of February.
These beds are currently only available when temperatures plunge to freezing or below.
City of York Council members will also be asked to allocate money to build affordable one-bedroom houses in a bid to help reduce homelessness among single people and couples.
A treetop rope climbing adventure course at Temple Newsam park in Leeds has finally been given the go-ahead.
Go Ape, who run 31 courses across the country, had their plans approved by Leeds City Council earlier today.
They had originally planned to open the attraction in Roundhay Park, but backed down after more than 3,000 people signed a petition opposing it.

Sheffield's first ever Gaelic football team is a step closer to playing its first match.

Police are appealing for witnesses to an armed robbery at a Doncaster petrol station in the early hours of Saturday 6 January.
A man reportedly entered the Jet petrol station in Balby Road before threatening staff with what is believed to be a knife and a handgun and leaving with money from the till.
South Yorkshire Police want anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV images above to get in touch.
Planning to drive into Leeds this weekend? Be aware that from Sunday, no traffic will be able to travel north over Leeds Bridge into the city centre.
This will allow for essential maintenance to be undertaken on the bridge which includes strengthening, cleaning and repainting the bridge.
