    A North Yorkshire police officer is asking drivers to pay more attention to road signs this morning after a car got stuck in flood water up to its windscreen.

    The road is blocked at Heslaker Lane, Carleton in Craven, near Skipton due to flood water.

    There are reports the water reached the windscreen of a vehicle.

    Traffic policeman, Andrew Ingram, tweeted: "Please read the signs and don't ignore them because we won't be rescuing you."

    Police in Sheffield are investigating two separate reports of guns being fired on Tuesday night.

    There are reports of a dark coloured car pulling up outside Jigga's takeaway on Cricket Inn Road, Park Hill, where shots are reported to have been fired toward the premises.

    Later on, a silver Ford Focus pulled onto Windy House Lane, Woodthorpe at the junction with Queen Mary Road, where it's reported shots were fired at the vehicle.

    No one was injured.

  4. Travel: Stocksbridge bypass closed due to floodingpublished at 09:16 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2018

    The Stocksbridge bypass has been closed due to flooding.

    The stretch affected is at Midhopestones between Mortimer Road and Manchester Road.

    Traffic is being delayed between Tankersley and the Woodhead Pass.

    An event to honour the life and work of the late MP, Jo Cox, will be held on what would have been her 44th birthday this year, instead of the date she was murdered.

    It's been decided The Great Get Together should held on a more "positive" date.

    Last year millions of people took part in community events across the country.

    This year they'll take place from 22 June until 24 June.

    The head of Sheffield's dockless bikes scheme has spoken out following criticism after its first week.

    It comes after reports of the bikes being damaged and dumped all over the city, in one case even up a tree.

    Joe Seal-Driver, the head of Ofo in the UK said "Unfortunately, we have seen a bit of misuse at the start of the operations in Sheffield but this is something we've seen in other cities too."

    He went to add that the firm has not asked South Yorkshire Police to pick up their bikes, yesterday the force said it had refused to collect the distinctive yellow bikes.

    A Huddersfield woman, whose 10-year-old son died after the property next door developed a carbon monoxide leak, is appealing to landlords to fit alarms.

    Nearly half of people renting private property in West Yorkshire have not had a carbon monoxide alarm fitted by their landlord.

    A campaign group has revealed that 304 people in Yorkshire were poisoned by the toxic gas last year, 87 of those cases involved children.

    You no longer need cash or a special smart card to get on many buses in West Yorkshire.

    Contactless

    From today you can use a contactless debit or credit card to pay the driver on services run by First.

    The company hopes it'll make it quicker to buy a ticket.

    Payment cards displaying the contactless logo from Visa, Mastercard or Maestro logo can be used.

    The company will also accept Pay, Android Pay, Samsung Pay and bPay, but can't accept payments by American Express.

  13. Fears grow for missing Skipton womanpublished at 07:09 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2018

    Police divers are due to resume their search today for a missing Skipton woman after beginning a full-scale emergency operation yesterday.

    Carol Latham, 63, was last seen leaving home on Monday morning.

    Yesterday a police helicopter was brought in to help with the search.

    Firefighters and search and rescue teams have also been involved.

    Police say they are becoming increasingly concerned as the temperatures plummet.

    The funeral of a South Yorkshire police officer, who died on duty in a crash on Christmas Day, will be held this afternoon in Sheffield.

    Dave Fields was killed responding to an incident, when the marked BMW 3 Series he was driving was in collision with a Citroen C3, in which 61-year-old Lorraine Stephenson, who was also killed, was a passenger.

    PC Field's dog, Bertie, will be walked by an officer in the funeral procession, along with bikes, the mounted unit and a full guard of honour.

    The Met Office office has issued a yellow warning for snow and wind in the County., external

    North Yorkshire Police say the the A59 is closed at Blubberhouses, between Harrogate and Skipton, because of an accident.

    Officers are also warning drivers to avoid the B1249 at Staxton Hill, near Scarborough and describe conditions as "difficult" in parts of the Harrogate, Craven and Richmond areas.

    We're not aware of any school closures in the county at the moment.

    North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, who took the photograph above in Richmondshire, have warned drivers to "allow extra time, take warm clothing and a shovel and drive appropriately for the conditions."
