    A policeman pursued vulnerable women for sex after meeting them through the course of his work, Luton Crown Court heard today.

    Simon Salway, 39, who was based at Hatfield station, is said to have targetted seven women after they contacted police for help; some were victims of domestic violence.

    The officer has pleaded not guilty to seven charges of misconduct in a public office and the case is continuing.

    Junior doctors at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital have been seeing patients after a national strike was called off following a temporary agreement with the Government.

    A Luton jazz bar has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money to soundproof the venue after it was served with a Noise Abatement Order.

    The Bear Club, external says it needs £9,400 to meet the requirements set out by Luton Borough Council.

    In an email, owner Justin Doherty writes: "4,500 people signed the [#savethebear] petition. That's just over £2 each."

    Plans to open a railway line between Bicester and Bletchley are still on track after the Transport Secretary accepted a recent review into the East-West Rail programme. 

    The project includes direct links to Aylesbury.

    Conservative MP for Aylesbury, David Lidington, says it will provide valuable extra capacity and an improved service for people in the area.

    A transgender woman found hanged in her cell at HMP Woodhill in Milton Keynes has been named as Joanne Latham.

    The 38-year-old was found unresponsive on Friday morning before being pronounced dead at 06:20.

    "As with all deaths in custody there will be an investigation by the independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman," a Prison Service spokesman said.

    A post-mortem examination is yet to be carried out on a transgender woman found dead in her cell in Milton Keynes' Woodhill Prison, a spokesman for the coroner's service has said.

    The death of the prisoner, who was serving life for attempted murder, is the second recently of a transgender woman in a men's prison.

    Last month inmate Vikki Thompson, 21, was found dead at HMP Leeds.

    A transgender woman has been found hanged in her cell at the all-male Woodhill Prison in Milton Keynes.

    Staff found that the observation panel on the prisoner's cell was covered just after 04:00 on Friday, and after getting no response from her, they forced entry through the door, which had been barricaded. 

    The staff administered CPR until paramedics arrived, but the prisoner was pronounced dead at 06:20.

    A Prison Service report seen by the BBC said a transgender prisoner found hanged in her cell at Woodhill Prison had barricaded the door of her cell.

    The ligature was removed but the inmate, serving life at the Milton Keynes prison for attempted murder, was pronounced dead at 06:20 on Friday.
