    So it was a great night for Hertfordshire's Laura Trott. 

    She was part of the team that broke the world record in qualifying in the women's team pursuit. 

    But her boyfriend, Jason Kenny took gold in the men's team sprint... something she was unsurprisingly very happy about!

    Hertfordshire cyclist Laura Trott had a good night last night - she was part of the group that set a new world record in the women's team pursuit.

    Going seventh out of the nine teams, they shaved more than four tenths of a second off the previous best of 4:13.683 set by Australia in 2015.

    GB will now meet Canada, runners-up at the 2015 World Championships, on Saturday (19:34 BST) for a place in the gold-medal race.

    Reports that a fatal car crash on Tuesday night in Luton followed a police chase are being dismissed by the police and crime commissioner for Bedfordshire. 

    Wanessa Lewandoska, 15, was killed when the car she was in crashed into a shop on High Town Road.

    Bedfordshire PCC Katherine Holloway said the car crashed soon after it failed to stop.

    "A pursuit to me does not mean 54 seconds. And it was 54 seconds after the police officer indicated that this car should stop that it collided," she said.

    At least two taxi drivers with criminal convictions are still operating in Milton Keynes.

    The news comes two years after it was revealed serial rapist Nadeem Ahmed Kiani had been given a licence in 2011. The scandal sparked the resignation of mayor Subhan Shafiq and two members of Milton Keynes Council's licensing committee.

    A subsequent investigation identified seven other drivers were also operating despite having criminal convictions. This week the council revealed two of those drivers were still active.

    However, licensing committee chairman Catriona Morris told me both had been reassessed and posed no danger to the public.

    A Freedom of Information request submitted to the council asking how many drivers had criminal convictions was refused on the grounds of cost.

    Under a new taxi licensing policy, external introduced in the wake of the 2014 scandal in Milton Keynes, people convicted of violent and sexual offences aren't given a licence.

    The policy says "no duration will be sufficient to satisfy the council that an individual (who has committed such offences) is fit and proper".

    Current chairman of the licensing committee Catriona Morris, who took over the role after it was discovered serial rapist Nadeem Ahmed Kiani had been given a private hire licence, said public safety was the number one consideration.

    Under the new rules, Kiani would have been prevented from gaining a licence several times over.

    Tributes have been paid to the Bedfordshire family who died in a car crash in Berkshire.

    Tracy Houghton, along with her 13-year-old son Ethan, 11-year-old son Joshua, and an 11-year-old girl, were killed in the accident.

    Her neighbour in Dunstable, Peter Ruffles, said he was "devastated" by the news.

    "I'm still shaking, I really can't believe it," he said. "Tracy was a local girl. I think they moved into that house six years ago - they're good neighbours."

    Taxis in Milton Keynes are safer than ever before, according to the councillor in charge of licensing.

    In August 2014, Milton Keynes was rocked by the news Nadeem Ahmed Kiani - a convicted rapist who had preyed on prostitutes in London - had been given a private hire licence.

    The fall out saw the new city's mayor - who had vouched for Kiani - forced to resign as a councillor and a major review was undertaken. 

    Seven other drivers with convictions were identified; only two of whom are still driving today. 

    Catriona Morris, the new head of the licensing committee, insists that two years on she wouldn't hesitate to catch a taxi on her own in Milton Keynes.

    I've been talking to neighbours of Tracy Houghton, who's been named locally as the mother who was killed on the A43 along with three children yesterday. 

    Richard Oliver told me that "Tracy was a local girl. I’m still shaking, can’t believe it. It’s unbelievable."

    Sam DiFalco knew Tracy from school and said she was "devoted to her kids, a lovely lady and it’s just a shame. It’s terrible. Devastating."

    The former Red Bull Formula 1 racing driver Mark Webber has attended a local council meeting objecting to a development close to his Buckinghamshire home.

    He tweeted, external that "local history" and buildings were being "steam-rollered" by developers.

    The proposed development is for 36 homes on a farm immediately behind his property in the village of Aston Clinton.

    The decision has been deferred, external and will be decided by officers of the council.

    Friends from the gym used by Olympics bronze medalist Max Whitlock have praised his achievements and wished him well for as he bids for another medal.

    Whitlock won Great Britain's first all-around gymnastics Olympics medal in 108 years last night as he took bronze in Rio.

    Whitlock, who's from Hemel Hempstead but now trains in Basildon, has claimed only the ninth medal won by a British gymnast and the first in the men's all-around event since Walter Tysall's silver in 1908.

    He scored a total of 90.641, which was 1.625 points behind silver medallist Oleg Verniaiev from Ukraine. Japan's Kohei Uchimura, dominant in the event since 2009, took gold.

  18. Tributes paid to Bedfordshire mother killed on A43published at 17:11 British Summer Time 11 August 2016

    Work colleagues have paid tribute to a Bedfordshire mother who was killed in an accident along with three children on the A43 in Berkshire yesterday. 

    Named locally as Tracy Houghton she worked in the financial services team at Central Bedfordshire District Council. 

    Gary Muskett, her team leader, said: "Tracy was a hugely likeable and bubbly person who was much admired by her colleagues, many of whom saw her also as a dear friend."

    Officials from the council say the "terrible" news has come as a "shock" and "our thoughts and condolences are with her family."

    A mother who died in a car crash on the A34 in Berkshire along with three children has been named locally as 45-year-old Tracy Houghton from Dunstable. 

    She was with her sons, Ethan, 13 and Joshua, 11, and another 11-year-old girl who was also travelling in the car.

    A man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after four lorries and four cars collided on Wednesday.

     A further 11 people sustained minor injuries, according to Thames Valley Police.

    They won't confirm how much... but MK Dons have confirmed that they've signed the Bristol City striker Kieran Agard for a club-record transfer fee, for three-years.

    The 26-year-old has won promotion out of the third tier with both Rotherham and the Robins, scoring 35 goals over the course of his previous two seasons in the division.

    "The ambition and direction of MK Dons, external suits me perfectly," he says. 

    He'll  wear the number 14 shirt and could make his debut in Saturday’s home clash with Millwall.
