    Plans to build a new stadium for Luton Town Football Club have been officially submitted.

    It would be built on Power Court in Luton Town Centre, opposite St Mary's Church

    The planning application also includes residential and commercial development, car parks and a hotel. 

    At the same time, 2020, the consortium who run Luton Town, have applied to develop land at junction 10 of the M1. Land there would be turned into a leisure and retail park. 

    Money raised from the development at junction 10 would be used to finance the Hatters' new home.

    Five-time winners Aston Villa have been knocked out of the EFL Cup in the first round by League Two side Luton Town.

    Villa, without an away win since August 2015, took the lead at Kenilworth Road but it wasn't long before Luton equalised and then took the lead with goals from Jake Gray and Cameron McGeehan.

    It was an own goal from Jores Okore that compounded Villa's misery.

    Luton Town will play Leeds United in the second round of the League Cup.

    Great Britain's Steven Scott beat compatriot Tim Kneale to win the bronze medal in the men's Olympic double trap shooting event.

    Both of them train at Nuthampstead Shooting ground in Hertfordshire.

    Scott's perfect score of 30 against Kneale's 28 secured Britain their second Rio shooting medal, after Ed Ling's trap bronze on day three.

    Police investigating a car crash in Luton which killed 15-year-old girl, have identified two other men who were also in the car. 

    The girl, named by friends as Nessa Lewandoska, was pronounced dead at the scene after the car she was a passenger in did not stop when police signalled it to pull over.

    The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating the police involvement in the incident.

     A third man was airlifted to hospital where he's being treated for minor injuries.

    Last night, friends of Miss Lewandoska laid flowers and candles at the scene in High Town Road.

    Great Britain's Joe Clarke produced a stunning final run to snatch gold in the kayak K1 at the Rio Olympics.

    The 23-year-old British number one, who trains at the Lee Valley White Water Centre in Hertfordshire, qualified third-fastest for the final but posted a time of 88.53 seconds to take first place.

    He told BBC Radio 5 live: "Everything pieced together so nicely, I can't put it into words. I knew I was capable but to put down that run in the Olympic final, it is a dream come true."

    Max Whitlock won Great Britain's first all-around gymnastics Olympics medal in 108 years as he took bronze in Rio.  

    The 23-year-old, from Hemel Hempstead, who now trains in Basildon, Essex, was one of the first to go in the last of six rotations and had to sit and wait anxiously after his floor routine to see if his rivals would deny him a medal.

    He finished with a points total of 90.641, only 0.143 more than Russia's David Belyavskiy who finished fourth.

    Friends of 15-year-old Nessa Lewandoska are planning a candlelit vigil tonight to honour their friend. 

    The teenager lost her life last night when the car she was in crashed into a shop in the High Town area of Luton. 

    Today they brought flowers and bunting to the area to pay their respects.

  15. Paralympic dream for eight-year-old boy with new armpublished at 17:40

    William Joyner, from Towcester in Northamptonshire, is hoping he'll be able to play football in the British Paralympic team one day thanks, in part, to his new prosthetic arm developed by a team in Bedfordshire.

    His mum Jo says: "That will really help him, especially with his football.

    "It will help build his confidence and strengthen his left side, because as the moment he doesn't use it much.

    "Instead of people feeling sorry for him because of his hand, now they will be really impressed by his new one."

    The hand was developed by senior lecturer David Jazani and technician Mark Hooper at the University of Bedfordshire.

    Very soon, William Joyner from Towcester, will be able to take his brand new prosthetic arm home

    Yesterday he went to a special fitting at the University of Bedfordshire where the team there had made and developed the 3D arm. 

    This is how he got on. 

    He will take it home as soon as some adjustments are made.

    An eight-year-old boy from Towcester can hold a pen for the first time after being fitted with a new hand printed in the colours of his favourite football team.

    William Joyner was born without fingers on his left hand.

    The Reading FC fan's blue and white prosthetic has been made by a senior lecturer and a PhD student at the University of Bedfordshire.

    "My friends are really excited for me, I can't wait to take it home and show everyone," William said.

    Two separate arson attacks at a Hertfordshire farm have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage. 

    Hertfordshire police say the farm in Common Lane, Harpendon, has been targeted by youths who've been climbing over the straw and disturbing cattle, including calves. 

    In both incidents bales of straw were set alight.

    Police have only just released the information after the incidents in July.

  19. Crashed car removed from Luton shopfrontpublished at 16:20

    The car involved in fatal crash in Luton last night has been removed from the shop front in the High Town area of town. 

    It was kept in place from about 22:20 last night as the building was deemed unsafe. 

    Engineers accessed the damage and it was finally taken away this afternoon. 

    The girl who lost her life has been named as 15-year-old Nessa Lewandoska.

  20. Rail firm pledges to help disabled passengerspublished at 16:10

    London Midland has launched a new campaign to encourage disabled people to use its services.

    It follows research from Network Rail which found that a quarter of passengers with disabilities don't feel their journeys will be easy.

    The company, which operates services through Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, says three quarters of its stations are already step-free and it will pay for disabled commuters to get to a suitable station if their nearest one has stairs.

    London Midland has also introduced a Travel Support Card, external to help passengers summon assistance if they have communication difficulties.
