  6. Aylesbury's new garden town 'needs to integrate'published at 11:00 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2017

    Sarah Jenkins
    BBC Local Live

You may have heard yesterday that Aylesbury has been chosen as one of three places to receive government backing as a garden town.

Extra funding of £500,000 will be given to Aylesbury Vale District Council to pay for infrastructure to improve transport links and green spaces.

The council put forward a case that it was in an ideal position in the so called 'brain belt' between Oxford and Cambridge.

The area is due to have 27,000 new homes built in the next 15 years and council leader Neil Blake says the money will allow the council to "structure houses to suit local needs".

He stressed that the new garden town "needs to integrate" with what is already in Aylesbury, adding: "It's no good building houses in the middle of nowhere."
