    Two wards at St Albans City Hospital are facing closure under plans to save nearly £3m.

    It means the entire community unit would close, with the loss of 39 community beds.

    The Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust says the plans are a result of cuts to its funding and the closure of Sopwell and Langton wards could save money.

    To compensate it says 10 new beds will be created in Langley House on St Albans Road in Watford. It will also spend some of the savings on increasing capacity to support people in their own homes.

    Two people who died of knife wounds at a maisonette in Cheshunt in Hertfordshire have been named by police.

    Hazel Wilson Briant, 27, was found dead by police when they were called to her home at Turners Hill on Sunday afternoon. She had been stabbed.

    Olumide Orimoloye, 42, of Turners Hill, was also found at the property with knife wounds. He died shortly after police arrived.

    Police said investigations are ongoing but at this stage officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

    The case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, which has launched an independent investigation.

    Mr Stewart, 56, of Baldock Road, Royston, is accused of drugging his wife-to-be before suffocating her and throwing her in the cesspit underneath the couple's garage.

    He denies murder, preventing a lawful burial, fraud and three counts of perverting the course of justice. 

    The jury at St Albans Crown Court will resume deliberations tomorrow.

    The local area police commander for Milton Keynes is being investigated over allegations of misconduct.

    Supt Gez Chiariello has been suspended from duty with immediate effect.  

    The alleged breaches of standards are in relation to authority, respect and courtesy, and discreditable conduct.

    The investigation is being carried out by Thames Valley Police's professional standards department. 

    In a statement the force said the matter would be taken to a misconduct hearing.

    Herts Valleys Clinical Commissioning Group , externalsays it has rescinded its decision to cut more than £8m funding for adult social care in the county.

    A meeting will be held next week to review all the issues raised following the original decision taken in December.

    Hertfordshire County Council was due to formally refer the funding cut to the health secretary today.

    The Conservative-run council said the cut would have a potentially catastrophic impact and make it harder to get people out of hospital and into care homes.

    A parliamentary motion expressing "no confidence" in Commons Speaker and Buckingham MP John Bercow has only attracted a handful of MPs.

    It was tabled by the former Foreign Office minister and Rochford and Southend East MP James Duddridge.

    It followed Mr Bercow's public opposition to Donald Trump addressing parliament on his state visit to Britain.

    However, only four other Conservative MPs have signed it.

    Police in Luton believe gunshots were fired during a fight in the town on Friday night. 

    Officers were called just after 23:00 to reports of gunfire in the Biscot Road area.

    Police say disorder broke out in Kennington Road before moving to the car park of The Biscot Mill pub (pictured).

    No-one was injured and no arrests have yet been made, but an axe was recovered from the scene.

    Police in Milton Keynes have named the woman whose death has prompted a murder investigation.

    Hang Yin Leung, 64, was attacked and robbed by a gang of men in Orne Gardens in Bolbeck Park on 31 January.

    She became unwell the following day and died in hospital 12 days later.

    Following a post-mortem examination, police launched a murder inquiry.

    Thames Valley Police says between four and six men were seen "cold calling" homes in the area and it is appealing for witnesses.

    Plans are being discussed this evening to ban fast food outlets close to schools in Milton Keynes. 

    Councillors will consider a 400m (0.25-mile) "exclusion zone" around primary and secondary schools for all new fast food takeaways.

    The council says it is committed to doing all it can to encourage young people eat to healthily.

    Tam Fry from the National Obesity Forum says improvements need to be made to food in schools. 

    Speaking to Andy Collins on BBC Three Counties Radio he said: "The key is that food in schools should be as delicious, if not more so, than the chippies so children will stay and eat the school food."
