Last night Edgbaston held a trial day-night cricket match under floodlights and with a pink ball.

Warwickshire County Cricket Club says it will hold further trials in second team cricket this season.

"We would love to be the first venue in England and Wales to host an international in day/night conditions with a pink ball," a spokesman said.

Police are trying to find Farai Kambarami, 25, who has links to Portsmouth, London, Surrey and Wolverhampton, in connection with an attempted murder in Milton Keynes yesterday.

A 34-year-old woman was driving in central MK when a black Honda CR-V, registration BT57 0FE, struck her. She drove to a car park but was followed by the man in the Honda.

He got out of the car and attacked her with what police believe to be a knife, leaving her with stab wounds to the throat and arm.

Downing Street insists there's been no change in policy on elected mayors, following an article in The Times newspaper saying the PM was looking to, external "ditch the plans". 

The Prime Minister's official spokeswoman said the government would continue to engage with local areas on devolution. She said that, as under David Cameron, where local authorities didn't want to be part of a deal, the government would not force them.

At the official launch of the West Midlands Combined Authority in early July, one of the main architects of devolution, Lord Michael Heseltine (pictured), predicted doom and gloom for any devo deals across the country that hadn't yet gone through. 

He told me that the appetite for the master plan was likely to be much weaker under a new administration, as is being reported today.

Both Lord Heseltine and the Chair of the West Midlands Combined Authority, Bob Sleigh, said from a political perspective they weren't overly concerned about anything changing to the devolution deal within our region as pen had already been put to paper, including the issue of a metro mayor.

The role is something that is still being hotly debated, of course, with some saying the role won't carry enough power while others think it an undemocratic idea in the first place.

But there's still an assumption among some that our deal is less significant to the government than the one going forward in Greater Manchester. Could that mean the metro mayor doesn't quite make it to the finish line in the West Midlands?

Edgbaston has been chosen to trial a day-night match - using pink balls under floodlights - to check suitability for England Tests.  

Evening sessions in the Monday-to-Wednesday Second XI game between Warwickshire and Worcestershire run between 19.30 and 21.30.
