Proposals that could see paramedics at West Midlands Ambulance Service, external wear cameras on their kit, could help cut the number of attacks on staff, according to an academic.
Dr Alex Sutherland, external from RAND Europe, a policy research institute, says more work needs to be done to see if they actually do cut the number of attacks.
Figures from West Midlands Ambulance Service show 298 members of staff were assaulted in the last year, 56 of them in Coventry and Warwickshire.

A flight from Birmingham has had to make an emergency landing after reports of smoke in the cockpit.
The captain of the Aer Lingus service EI3701 from Birmingham to Cork declared a "full emergency" about 10 minutes before it was due to land but was "stood down" once landed.
The Dublin Airport Authority says all 59 passengers safely disembarked.

The investigation into the death of Dalian Atkinson by the Independent Police Complaints Commission will take nine months, an inquest into his death has been told.
Mr Atkinson had been Tasered by police - two officers have been suspended while a criminal investigation is carried out.
The inquest, which opened this morning, also heard that doctors had tried to give Mr Atkinson CPR for 35 minutes, before he was pronounced dead at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital.
A man is fighting for his life after being stabbed in Newtown, Birmingham, on Tuesday.
Police say they believe the victim and suspect are "known to each other" after the attack at around 19:55 on Summer Lane.
The man was found with "life-threatening injuries" and his condition was described as "critical" this morning, West Midlands Police said.
No arrests have yet been made but officers are appealing for information, external.

An inquest has opened into the death of the former Aston Villa footballer, Dalian Atkinson.
Mr Atkinson, of Holly Road in the Dawley area of Telford, died shortly after being Tasered outside his father's home in the town just over a week ago and a full inquest has now been scheduled for three months' time.
His death is the subject of an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission and two police officers have been suspended.
No cause of death was given this morning and more tests have been ordered after an initial post-mortem examination proved inconclusive.

People found carrying powerful laser pointers should be arrested even if they are not in use, the head of the UK's aviation regulator has said.
Andrew Haines, chief executive of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), says new legislation is needed to cut the number of laser attacks on aircraft.
It is an offence to act in a manner "likely to endanger an aircraft" under the existing Air Navigation Order 2009.
A government spokeswoman said it was "looking to make changes" to the law. Last year there were 94 of these incidents at Birmingham Airport.

Paramedics in the West Midlands could be given wearable video cameras, after an increase in attacks when they are on duty.
Ambulances have already been fitted with CCTV to record offenders.
Almost 300 members of staff were physically assaulted across the region last year.
Steve Elliker, head of security and safety at West Midlands Ambulance Service, said most attacks happened away from existing CCTV cameras.
