  5. Transfer deadline news: Berahino staying put?published at 10:33 British Summer Time 31 August 2016

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

It's that time of the year again - will Saido Berahino stay or go?

The 23-year-old appears to have been standing by the exit door at West Brom for 12 months after his infamous tweet saying he would never play for Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace again after a move to Tottenham failed to materialise.

Once again there was talk he was making his farewell appearance when he came on as a substitute against Middlesbrough on Sunday.

But tweets from a holiday and another saying he is looking forward to playing with new West Brom signing Nacer Chadli suggest he is staying put again.

  6. Police force to take on more than 1,000 new staff memberspublished at 09:27 British Summer Time 31 August 2016

    Stephanie Barnard
    BBC Local Live

West Midlands Police is to recruit more than 1,000 new staff, including 800 officers.

The force will take on new PCs, as well as 150 police community support officers, external and 200 specialist staff.

Commissioner David Jamieson says the recruitment, over three years, is possible after an efficiency drive.

It comes after some 500 officers forced to retire from the force were among those who lost an age discrimination case last year.

  7. Transfer deadline news: Wolves, Blues and Saddlerspublished at 09:07 British Summer Time 31 August 2016

    Mikey Burrows
    BBC WM Sport

Here are the transfer headlines for the three other main football clubs in our area:

    • Wolves have already brought in 11 players this summer but they could be set for at least two more: winger Ivan Cavaleiro is on the verge of signing from Monaco, that could free Nathan Byrne to leave. Preston and Wigan are interested in him.
    • Birmingham are keen on Burnley striker Lukas Jutkiewicz, while at least one player may leave today.
    • Walsall are refusing to comment on reports defender Rico Henry is in talks with Brentford. Head Coach Jon Whitney did say at the weekend they had a plan should he leave, so expect business at the Banks’ too.

  8. Transfer deadline news: Baggies and Villa latestpublished at 08:50 British Summer Time 31 August 2016

    Mikey Burrows
    BBC WM Sport

The transfer window closes at 23:00 today and all five of our teams are expected to do business in the final hours:

    • West Brom may have kicked off Deadline Day by confirming Sebastien Pocognoli’s loan move to Brighton, but we don’t expect that to be their only business today. Tony Pulis treats transfer windows like many of us treat the run up to Christmas, leave it late and hope to grab a bargain. This year though he has extra money available after the recent Chinese takeover and Ignacio Camacho, from Malaga, is a definite target, while a striker is a priority to allow Saido Berahino to finally leave for Stoke
    • Aston Villa want a forward; they could possibly swap Adama Traore for Albert Adomah at Middlesbrough, while Micah Richards is interesting West Ham and Hull.

We'll bring you updates throughout the day - plus you can follow coverage of all the moves on the BBC Sports Day live page and by listening to BBC WM.
