  2. Bilston pool closed until further notice for ceiling repairspublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 6 September 2016

    The main swimming pool at the Bert Williams leisure centre in Bilston has been closed until further notice while repairs are carried out to its damaged ceiling.

    A leak from the showers above is the reason work is needed, according to the city council.

    Swimmers are being urged to visit the city's Central Baths as an alternative.

    More commuters could have to stand under proposals for rail services in the West Midlands - but bosses say most would be on their feet for under 20 minutes.

    The BBC has learned that companies bidding to run the trains currently under London Midland are being given permission to remove seats to create more standing room. 

    Malcolm Holmes, from West Midlands Rail, said: "You have to remember the vast majority of journeys on the cross city line are less than 20 minutes.

    "This is to allow much better standing capacity for those short journeys."

  4. Car flipped onto its roof after crashpublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 6 September 2016

    A man and woman escaped serious injury when their car crashed into a central reservation before coming to rest on its roof.

    The crash happened at around 11:55 on Stafford Road, Cannock.

    The driver was treated for cuts to his head while woman passenger, who had been able to make her own way out of the car, was treated for a "minor chest injury" before both were taken to Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital, West Midlands Ambulance Service said, external.

  5. Future of Stafford Shire Hall set for reviewpublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 6 September 2016

    New ways to make use of Stafford's Shire Hall are being considered by Staffordshire County Council. 

    The authority says the number of visits to the venue is falling and later this month it is going to look , externalat ways to keep it in use.

    It'll be discussed at a council meeting which will also talk about taking the county's arts service "into the community" with "pop-up" exhibitions and events in new and existing venues. 

    Part of the Shire Hall's been used by the University of Wolverhampton since 2014 and the council says its review coincides with the university looking for another base in the county town.  

  6. Council leader's mission to China and Hong Kongpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 6 September 2016

    Birmingham City Council's leader is on a week-long mission to China and Hong Kong to boost investment in the city.

    Councillor John Clancy said "the landscape has inevitably changed post-Brexit and Birmingham is already out of the starting blocks." 

    "That's why I’m selling our city to many of China’s leading investors," he said.

    He met with property development company Country Garden, which has signed a Joint Statement of Investment Commitment with the council so it can explore opportunities around the city.

  7. Cricket: Woakes available for Bears' finalpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 6 September 2016

    Warwickshire's Chris Woakes will be allowed to play in the Bears' One-Day Cup final against Surrey at Lord's a week on Saturday. 

    England have however asked Warwickshire to rest the all-rounder from their final game of the County Championship season, against Lancashire at Edgbaston. 

    The ECB say it's to protect Woakes after a busy international summer.

  8. Victim of 'targeted' stabbing named as police make fourth arrestpublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 6 September 2016

    A man who was killed in a "targeted" stabbing has been named by police - as two more men were held in connection with the murder.

    Mircea Gheorghe Cozmiuc, 23, whom officers said was known to friends as Gheorghe, was found in Carter Road, Wolverhampton, with "multiple" stab wounds at around 07:00 on Saturday, West Midlands Police said.

    Two men, aged 36 and 34, were arrested at a Pennfields address on Monday night in connection with the murder, taking the total number of arrests to four.

    A 33-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday remains in police custody. A 36-year-old man, arrested in Whitmore Reans on Saturday, has been released on bail.

    Detective Inspector Jim Munro, from the Force CID, said it was believed the assault was "targeted". Officers want more information about a grey Audi A3 they say was seen "speeding away" from the scene.

  11. Children's minor injuries unit plan for Staffordpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 6 September 2016

    Health bosses are going to visit another NHS Trust in England to see if they can get a children's minor injuries unit, external (MIU) running alongside adult A&E in Stafford. 

    The University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) has today announced children's A&E at the County Hospital will stay shut for at least 10 more weeks.

    It follows UHNM suspending those services last month due to a shortage of staff with the right specialist training. 

    To try to get some children's services back at the hospital, it says staff will visit "as soon as possible" an NHS Trust in the South West which runs an MIU alongside adult A&E, to see if they can do the same in Stafford.

    In the meantime, sick children could either be transferred to the Royal Stoke University Hospital, Wolverhampton's New Cross or Walsall Manor hospitals.

    Wales striker Hal Robson-Kanu says he turned down "significant" offers from clubs in Asia to sign for West Bromwich Albion. 

    After seeing out his Reading contract last season, the 27-year-old was a free agent until he moved to The Hawthorns on transfer deadline day. 

    "There was significant amounts of money being offered to me abroad, the likes of China, Asia, but that's not what I'm looking for," said Robson-Kanu.

    More commuters could have to stand under plans for rail services across the West Midlands.

    Seats could be removed to fit more people onto services on trains currently run by London Midland.

    Two groups are bidding to take on the franchise from October next year.

    The services include the cross city lines, and trains out of Birmingham to Hereford, Shrewsbury, Stoke-on-Trent, Liverpool, Stratford, Leamington, and down to London.

    Suspended children's accident and emergency services at Stafford's County Hospital are going to stay shut for at least another 10 weeks. 

    The decision over the A&E was made almost a fortnight ago because of a shortage of staff with the right specialist training, the trust said.

    Now the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust says it's getting the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health to carry out a review, external of the service which will take about 10 weeks. 

    In the meantime, UHNM says it's going to try to bring back some services to the County Hospital, including broken bones and sprains.
