  4. Man arrested after railway arch carjackingpublished at 10:48 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2016

    A 17-year-old has been arrested following a car-jacking in Birmingham in which the elderly driver was threatened with a knife and imitation firearm.

    Dash cam footage released by the police, external shows the moment the 75-year-old driver was forced to stop as a man stood in the single track road under a railway arch in Acocks Green on Monday.

    Police say three men with an imitation firearm and a large kitchen knife forced the man out of his car before driving off - however the car stalled a few yards and couldn't be restarted.

    The pensioner confronted the man who then pushed him to the floor, refusing to give him the keys back.

    Police investigate a video that appears to show a football fan being pushed to the floor during the derby match between Aston Villa and Birmingham City. The match took place on Sunday. A police spokesman said anyone found to have acted inappropriately will face disciplinary action.

  7. Good news commuters! Brum roadworks finish ahead of schedulepublished at 10:05 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2016

    Road closures on Spaghetti Junction and the A38 have been lifted this morning a month ahead of schedule. 

    Highways England say essential work to repair damaged concrete on the junction has been completed quicker than expected.

    Overnight closures have been in place for most of the summer as well as daytime lane restrictions.

    The scheme is designed to protect the structure for the next 20 years.

    Three Birmingham Hospitals have been given poor ratings for food hygiene, an investigation has found.

    West Heath scored just one out of five in March after inspectors found dirt, out-of-date food, turkey and beef being frozen against instructions, with desserts and bacon being given too long use-by dates by staff. 

    A spokeswoman said operating procedures had now improved and the hospital kitchen which serves 42 inpatients now has a very good rating., external

    The Woodbourne Priory and Royal Orthopaedic both scored two out of 5.

    The trust that runs Birmingham Women's Hospital has been told it "requires improvement" following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission. , external

    The health watchdog highlights concerns over the trust's abortion service with some nurses not receiving necessary training.

    It also says waiting times in antenatal clinics are too long. However, the inpatient maternity services have been rated as outstanding.

    Wolves caretaker manager, Rob Edwards, is expected to remain in charge for a second match, this Saturday's home game against Derby County.

    Wolves are to embark on a second round of interviews from tomorrow onwards. 

    And with the bookies' favourite Paul Lambert (pictured) in Germany until Thursday, there is understood to be no pressing need for a quick appointment.
