    In March this year, while watching his beloved Cardiff City take on The Baggies at the Hawthornes, John Bullock suffered a heart attack.

    John says quick action taken by stewards and medics at the ground, saved his life. Today he will return to the Hawthornes to watch West Brom to take on Crystal Palace and to thank those who helped him.

    Even as medics were putting him in the ambulance, John was still trying to work out the score from the tenor of the cheers coming from the ground. He said “when the ambulance door was closing I heard a dull roar, so I said hang fire, I think we might have got a point out of this game”.

  2. Biker seriously injured as 200 riders cause disorder on the streetspublished at 11:17 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2016

    One biker suffered serious chest injuries following a collision with a car in Solihull, external during a bike gathering in which around 200 motorcyclists "ran amok", police say.

    Five men and two youths were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, causing a public nuisance and motoring offences.

    Police said one of its vans came under attack and there were reports that some of the group hurled fireworks at other motorists.

    Ten bikes, including scramblers, mini moto’s and quad bikes were seized.

  4. Police chiefs set to unveil 'major modernisation' of forcepublished at 10:34 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2016

    West Midlands Police are announcing plans to modernise the force. 

    The Police and Crime Commissioner, David Jamieson, and the Deputy Chief Constable will reveal details of the programme, which includes high-definition body-worn cameras for police officers and new smart phones so they can receive information on the go. 

    They say it will be the biggest review of policing in the force area in recent years.

    New parking charges come in today at Sandwell Valley Country Park. 

    Motorists will have to pay 40p an hour, up to £2 a day - the charges are in place between 09:00 and 18:00. 

    The money raised will help maintain the park, the council say.

    The future of contracts for 24,000 people working at Birmingham City Council will be voted on later. 

    The council is set to vote on changing terms and conditions, which won't include changes to sick pay. 

    It does look set to mean no automatic pay rise next year, and retirement presents would also be scrapped.

  8. Arrests after bikers ' run amok'published at 08:46 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2016

    Seven people were arrested and motorcycles seized last night as a gang of up to 200 bikers, external "ran amok" in Solihull and Birmingham, police say.

    Ten bikes were seized by police, some after having their tyres deflated by "stingers" and police say they believe at least three of these had been reported stolen.

    Ch Insp Jack Hadley described the bike gathering – known as a Halloween Ride Out – as "loutish, criminal behaviour".

    Sunday was the third busiest day of the year for 999 calls, according to West Midlands Ambulance Service, external.

    In total, the Trust received 3,591 emergency calls across the region, compared with 3,154 the weekend before.

    Managers blamed a combination of Halloween, Diwali, a payday weekend and an extra hour, due to the clocks going back.

    They praised staff who "worked incredibly hard to ensure patients continued to receive excellent care".

    Only New Year's Day and 19 July, when temperatures soared, were busier.
