Bragging rights may have been shared, but Steve Bruce was still the happier of the two managers after Blues and Villa played out a 1-1 draw yesterday.

The atmosphere was electric. We started really well with good balance and had a few chances, and then we conceded very poorly, which is really disappointing in a big derby. We didn't do our jobs properly."

Wherever we go, we're Aston Villa and people want to turn us over because of who we are and what we are. I'm proud of the way we performed and got a result."

  2. Kingsley Burrell: Officers due to appear in court next monthpublished at 10:59 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2016

Three police officers have appeared in court following the death of Kingsley Burrell in March 2011.

The charges are in connection with evidence given to an inquest into Mr Burrell's death in May last year, which ruled that "prolonged restraint" and a delay in seeking basic medical help contributed to Mr Burrell's death.

The 29-year-old died from a cardiac arrest. He'd been detained under the Mental Health Act following a disturbance in Winson Green in Birmingham in which he'd claimed he and his son, aged four, had been threatened by armed men.

The three officers weren't asked to enter pleas and were remanded on unconditional bail to appear at the Crown Court on 28 November.

  6. Police praise fans: Blues v Villa goes by without 'major incident'published at 08:54 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2016

Police say they're pleased there were no major incidents surrounding yesterday's 1-1 draw between Birmingham City and Aston Villa.

It's one of the biggest derbys in football, and in the past it's been a catalyst for some violent clashes.

The policing operation involved hundreds of officers and months of planning.

Fourteen arrests were made and police say the operation was a success with rival groups of fans kept apart.

We've had two sets of fans out that were really passionate. They were mainly well behaved both inside and outside of the stadium. We have had some hooligan groups who have been intent on coming together so we've had to take some action by putting police officers in between the two sets."
