  5. JLR workers back 'exceptional' pay dealpublished at 18:01 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

Workers at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) have backed a two-year pay deal described as "exceptional" by their union.

Unite said its members voted by 77% to accept a rise of 3.5% plus a £750 bonus, followed by an inflation-proof retail price index increase, plus 0.5% rise in year two.

The deal, which runs from the start of this month, affects workers at JLR's workplaces in Coventry, Castle Bromwich, Halewood, Solihull and Wolverhampton.

Unite national officer Roger Maddison said: "This exceptional pay deal is no less than the workforce at JLR deserve and is recognition of their continued hard work which has made the carmaker such a world beater."

  7. Motion of 'no confidence' for city council's Labour leadershippublished at 17:37 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    Kathryn Stanczyszyn
    Political Reporter, BBC WM

This is the Conservative group on Birmingham City Council repeating accusations that Labour isn't up to managing the finances. Not really a shocker - "opposition group criticises ruling party".

But this time it's a little more serious. They're going as far as a motion of no confidence, to be read out at the full council meeting next Tuesday.

A report from the Independent Improvement Panel earlier this month said that "flawed" planning and "unrealistic" proposals had left the local authority facing a budget overspend of £49m.

Tory group leader Robert Alden claims in addition to that, some of the savings proposals put forward for next year are already on shaky ground.

Of course, Birmingham City Council is still being watched very carefully over the way it's being run and the improvement panel has also said there’s been some big improvement.

  9. Record number of customers use Birmingham New Street stationpublished at 17:09 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    BBC WM

Birmingham New Street station had its busiest day ever on Saturday.

According to Network Rail, it's the equivalent of the population of Wolverhampton coming through its doors; with 258,000 people using the station - 28,000 more than the Saturday before.

Over the weekend, about two thirds of a million people came through the station.

It's thought the numbers were down to a convergence of Black Friday, an Aston Villa home game and the city's Christmas market.

  16. Cars worth total of '£100,000' stolen as drivers left them defrostingpublished at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

Police estimate the total cost of cars stolen as drivers left them with the engine running in this morning's cold weather to be about £100,000.

Among the cars to go between 07:30 and 09:15 were an Audi A3 in Knowle, Solihull; a Ford Mondeo in Dorridge, Solihull; and a Mazda in Castle Bromwich.

Opportunist thieves watch weather forecasts, West Midlands Police has reminded motorists, adding car owners should never return to their homes while keys remain in the ignition as vehicles defrost.

Earlier, Central Motorway Police Group said six cars were stolen in the region within 30 minutes this morning.

    Monica Rimmer

Zeb used Your Questions to ask: "Did the University of Birmingham convert its coal mines into a bomb shelter?"

We shed somelight on this yesterday and since then have some more information from the Special Collections team at the university which has been going through the Air Raid Precautions Committee minutes.

On 28 October 1938, Professor Moss submitted a scheme for adapting a model mine for about 800 people.

By 10 March 1939, the chairman reported the alterations to the model mine were almost complete.
