    Jill Saward's hard work and tenacity changed the law around sexual assaults. Today mourners came from all over the country to pay their respects at her funeral in Lichfield.

    Birmingham City Council has announced it is hoping to transfer responsibility for running children's services to a community interest company. 

    And Birmingham City boss Gianfranco Zola today confirmed his interest in several players - the Derby winger Johnny Russell, Swansea City's Wayne Routledge and two full-backs: Emilio Nsue from Middlesbrough and Cheick Keita who plays in Italy.

  8. Trailer used to take wheelchair users on day trips stolen in Walsallpublished at 17:50 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2017

    Volunteers and disabled people at a Walsall charity are devastated after the theft of a trailer used to carry wheelchairs on day trips. 

    The trailer was taken from the car park at Place of Refuge Community Church in Delves at the weekend. 

    The group is appealing for information to help recover the trailer - the police are investigating.

    A man stabbed and punched his dog after the pet urinated on a bag of marijuana and then hid her from police behind the washing machine.

    Michael Anthony Bailey, 54, from Dale Terrace in Oldbury, attacked his dog Lucky last June, magistrates in Birmingham heard.

    When police came to his home he said the dog had run off, but she was found hidden behind the washing machine.

    Lucky made a full recovery but was later put down after it was found she was a banned breed. Bailey was jailed for 12 weeks.

    Birmingham City Council wants to offload the £726,000 annual cost of its 11-strong team in charge of Brexit issues in the city.

    The authority hopes external sources can, within two years, pay for its Birmingham-based European & International Affairs team - plus £120,000 for its office in Brussels.

    Supporters say the office is "required as much, if not more, post-Brexit".

    UKIP MEP for the West Midlands Bill Etheridge thinks the office should be "closed down immediately".

    A developer has been given outline planning permission to build an industrial estate on land near Tamworth, which it is claimed could create hundreds of new jobs.

    St Mowden, external is looking to built units on a 35-acre site east of junction 10 of the M42.

    Nearby areas are already used by warehouse and distribution firms and the developer says it's going to have to create an access route off Trinity Road for the site. 

    They add that a "substantial area" of existing open space will be kept for natural wildlife habitats.

    The man behind the Korky the Cat and Desperate Dan is being recognised with a blue plaque at his old school in the Black Country.

    Charles Grigg lived in Langley and went to Rood End Primary. 

    He spent more than 20 years drawing The Dandy's lead characters Korky and Desperate Dan, before his death in 2013 at the age of 97. 

    His son Steve says his work was at the comic's height of popularity.

    A Dudley man who hit a police officer as he drove away from a suspected drug deal has been jailed for 17 months.

    Mohammed Asim, aged 25, hit Sgt Alan Hands in Wolverhampton Road as officers approached a car they thought was being used by dealers, according to police, external.

    The West Midlands force said the officer had to have CT scans and six months of physiotherapy.

    Asim, of Queens Cross, Dudley, admitted assault and dangerous driving and was jailed for a total of 17 months.
