    Two of the largest investment banks in the City of London have said that some staff will definitely have to move abroad when the UK leaves the EU.

    HSBC's chief executive, Stuart Gulliver, told Bloomberg he was preparing to move 1,000 staff from London to Paris.

    And Axel Weber, boss of Swiss bank, UBS, told the BBC "about 1,000" of its 5,000 London jobs could be hit by Brexit.

    HSBC has however already said that post-Brexit it would keep its global headquarters in London and its UK headquarters in Birmingham.

    Birmingham City Council's leader has completed a three-day trade mission to Qatar to drum up investment for the £500m Smithfield redevelopment of the city's wholesale markets and the city's interchange linked to the HS2 rail line.

    Councillor John Clancy met with investors and Qatari government ministers.

    The Labour council leader was joined by Neil Rami, the chief executive of inward investment group Marketing Birmingham, and Waheed Nazir, Birmingham City Council’s strategic director for the economy, as well as a representative from the UK Department of International Trade to show British government support for the visit.

    One of the other plans discussed was a "large scale housing development", the council said.

    An inspiration to many, Wolverhampton through and through and a pioneer in women's cricket. Just some of the tributes which have been pouring in to Rachael Heyhoe-Flint, whose death was announced this afternoon.

    A leading property developer has told the BBC that Chinese investors are increasingly choosing to buy in Birmingham rather than more glamorous locations like Sydney and New York. 

    He's called it the best performance of his tennis career. Birmingham's Dan Evans has beaten world number seven Marin Cilic in the second round of the Australian Open.

    From making her Test debut for England as a 21-year-old in 1960, to becoming one of the ECB’s first female directors 50 years later – when she was also the first woman inducted to the ICC’s Hall of Fame – she was "a trailblazer, particularly for the women’s game", the ECB said.

    Rachael Heyhoe Flint was my friend for over 40 years.

    She was a fantastic pioneer in what she did for women's cricket. 

    Over two decades she was a player and a captain for 12 years. 

    She was always at great pains to point out, you men, you're hopeless at the World Cup, you haven't won the World Cup yet, we won it in 1973.

    It's so sad she's gone.

    Rachael's son, Ben Heyhoe Flint, paid tribute to her, external "achievements in government, cricket, football, charity and community on which she had such a profound influence.

    "She tackled all of the above at full speed, showing us how grace, a cheeky sense of humour - and tenacity - can break glass ceilings.

    "We hope that we all can continue the legacy that she leaves behind.”

    She captained England women's cricketers to victory in the 1973 World Cup, and was one of the first women admitted to the MCC.

    She was also a journalist, served on Wolves' board and became an MBE in 1972, OBE in 2008 and a life peer in the House of Lord's in 2011.

    A father-of-two charged with murdering his son and daughter has appeared before magistrates.

    Saros Endris, eight, and his sister Leanor, aged six, died in hospital following a fire at their home in Hamstead, Birmingham in October last year.

    Their dad, Endris Mohammed 46, was found in a burnt-out car on the A53 near Newcastle-under-Lyme.

    Today he appeared in the dock wearing a hospital gown and his scalp and face bandaged and apparently burnt. 

    He's also accused of attempting to murder his wife, Penil Teklehaimanot. 

    Magistrates in Walsall remanded him in custody and he's due appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday. He only spoke to confirm his name and address. No plea was entered.
