    Network Rail has warned commuters some services remain suspended after the Army's controlled explosion on a wartime bomb in Aston.

    There are no trains running between Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley.

    Local buses that have been accepting train tickets are experiencing delays.

    A World War Two bomb that shut a major road network over two days has been detonated by the Army.

    Monday's discovery in Aston, Birmingham, led to the closure of Aston Expressway along with a rail route running north out of the city.

    Evacuated residents whose homes were in an exclusion zone slept in a gym overnight.

    A stretch of the M6 was closed at about 15:00 on Tuesday while the explosion was carried out - since reopened.

    A stretch of the M6 was shut both ways between Coleshill and Great Barr shortly after 15:00 while the Army carried out a controlled explosion on a World War Two bomb.

    It has reopened, but the Aston Expressway remains closed.

    Residents of Erdington, Kingstanding, Castle Vale, Castle Bromwich, Sutton Coldfield and Coleshill have said they heard the boom.

    The Army has carried out a controlled explosion on the WW2 bomb in Aston, but commuters thinking they'll be able to travel north on the Cross City line out of Birmingham may have to think again.

    Here's Network Rail reminding passengers that emergency services need to first declare the route safe.

    Trains have been cancelled between Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley since Monday - part of the route runs parallel to where the bomb was found.

    Hundreds of tonnes of sand have been driven in by the army to aid its operation in Aston.

    These pictures are as close as you're going to get - there is a 500m exclusion zone around the site in Priory Road, with, police said, "hundreds of homes" evacuated.

    We brought you a video earlier of the Army major who is overseeing the operation in Aston. In it, posted again below, he explains how tonnes of sand are being used to make a protective "sand igloo" - yes, igloo - around the German device. 

    Major Mike Luedicke told the BBC sand bags gave the team "a great degree of safety around the site".
