  2. Dernbach picks up a couplepublished at 16:18 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    Warwickshire 332 & 60-2 v Surrey 437 - tea

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

In his 100th first-class game, Jade Dernbach produced a lovely spell of bowling to leave Warwickshire in a spot of bother after Surrey were all out with a lead of 105 runs.

Ian Westwood and William Porterfield, as they had done on Friday, started solidly and had put on 45 when Dernbach took the ball. He immediately had Porterfield caught behind for 15 and then produced a cracking delivery to have Jonathan Trott caught by Kumar Sangakkara without scoring.

Westwood is 34 and Ian Bell has seven to his name but the final 32 overs today could be hard work for the hosts.

  5. Surrey set fair at Edgbastonpublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 23 April 2017

    Warwickshire 332 v Surrey 367-5 (101 overs)

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

It was an ominous sign for Warwickshire when Kumar Sangakkara played a beautiful cover drive to the third ball of the morning that sped to the boundary. The shot took Sangakkara to his 58th first-class hundred and he looked set for a day at the crease.

But Keith Barker found the edge of Sangakkara's bat on 105 and Rikki Clarke took a good catch at slip. Sangakkara made his way back to the dressing room looking like he had been asked to leave a party early.

Ben Foakes departed for 21, having helped the visitors move into the lead, when he pulled Oliver Hannon-Dalby straight to Jeetan Patel but Dominic Sibley reached his first half-century of the season to leave them on 367-5 - a lead of 35.

  11. Runs flow halted at Edgbastonpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 22 April 2017

    Warwickshire 332 v Surrey 131-2 (33 overs)

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

The runs have flowed since lunch but Rikki Clarke has just taken a much-needed wicket for the hosts, having Scott Borthwick caught at slip for 50.

Borthwick and Mark Stoneman had put on 116 for the second wicket with an array of handsome shots, including one over where Stoneman took 18 off Keith Barker.

Kumar Sangakkara has joined Stoneman in the middle as the sun continues to shine in Birmingham.

  12. New ball does the trickpublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 22 April 2017

    Warwickshire 332 v Surrey 12-1

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

Surrey took the new ball as soon as it became available last night, with Sam Curran immediately getting rid of Tim Ambrose and Mark Footitt dismissing Ian Westwood.

They came back this morning and Rikki Clarke fell to Footitt, Sam Curran dismissed Jetan Patel and Chris Wright and Tom Curran finished the Warwickshire innings when Oliver Hannon-Dalby chipped a catch to Mark Stoneman. From 290-4 the hosts were all out for 332.

However, Warwickshire have taken an early wicket with Chris Wright having Rory Burns caught in the slips for six. It's fascinating stuff again.

  13. Sunny and cold at Edgbastonpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 22 April 2017

    Warwickshire 296-7 v Surrey (86 overs)

    Clive Eakin
    BBC Coventry & Warwickshire Sport

The early dismissal of Rikki Clarke this morning has undermined Warwickshire's ambition to reach 400 and build on the outstanding innings of Ian Westwood.

By their own admission, Surrey's bowlers had a poor morning yesterday, but did enough in the next two sessions to stay in the game.

It's a sunny, but cold morning at Edgbaston with the match nicely poised.

  20. Tata Steel still working on pension planpublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Today Programme
    BBC Radio 4

Tata Steel, which employs nearly 800 people in the West Midlands, still has not worked out how to deal with the £15bn British Steel pension scheme for which it is responsible.

"The whole of pension legislation" is designed to stop companies walking away from their pension obligations, says John Ralfe independent pension consultant.

Tata might be able to offload the scheme into the Pension Protection Fund. Reports say they are offering £500m to do just that, but Mr Ralfe says the Pension Regulator will "expect a much bigger amount".

Tata wants a solution as its trying to merge its European steel business with German rival Thyssen Krupp and the pension problem is holding up that deal.
