    A West Bromwich woman says she's grateful to the team of volunteers that helped build her a bigger house.

    Sandra Chambers needed an extension because she looks after her two young grandchildren following the death of her daughter two years ago.

    She couldn't afford it so the BBC programme DIY SOS stepped in with local traders.

  15. Slip roads closed over weekend at J6 of M6published at 17:49 British Summer Time 28 July 2017

    The exit slip roads at J6 (Spaghetti junction) of the M6 will be closed over the weekend to allow work to be carried out to replace damaged concrete.

    Highways England is reminding drivers of the closures that will take place from 20:00 on Friday until 06:00 on Monday.

  16. Burglars jailed for stealing Villa skipper's Harry Potter bookspublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 28 July 2017

    A gang that stole Aston Villa captain John Terry's Harry Potter books among other items has been jailed for a series of raids on luxury homes.

    The signed, first edition novels valued at £18,000 were taken along with more than £400,000 of designer goods when Mr Terry's Surrey mansion was targeted in February while he was away skiing - a trip he shared with 3.4m Instagram followers.

    Thieves took the chance to help themselves to property including designer handbags worth £126,00 and more than £220,000 of jewellery.

    Four men were sentenced to a total of 27 years and 11 months in prison.

    A fifth man was convicted of handling stolen goods.

    Birmingham remains in the running for the 2022 Commonwealth Games after passing preliminary assessments.

    Birmingham has been the subject of recent inspection visits by an independent assessment panel, Commonwealth Games Federation representatives and Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport officials.

    The assessment panel found Birmingham's plans had sufficient merit to warrant further developing proposals.

    Megson led the club to their first ever promotion to the Premier League in 2002 and steps in after former assistant Dave Kemp decided to retire.
