    A BMW with a dead body in the front passenger seat pulled up outside West Bromwich police station where the driver presented himself to officers.

    It happened at about 10:20 today.

    The West Midlands force says a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

    The deceased was male and police said they suspected he died some time before his body was driven to the station - the front office of which was closed temporarily for forensic examinations.

    A man has been charged with robbing five branches of Greggs across Birmingham, police say.

    It follows an appeal on Tuesday over the spree in which police said a machete was carried, staff were threatened and cash was stolen.

    A 40-year-old from Sparkbrook is accused of targeting shops in Ward End, Weoley Castle, Druids Heath, Acocks Green and Erdington between February and July.

    He has been charged with five counts of robbery and one of possessing a bladed article in public.

    He appeared before magistrates in Birmingham earlier and was remanded in custody ahead of his next appearance at Birmingham Crown Court.

    A man arrested on suspicion of rape in connection with an attack on a 14-year-old girl in Witton, Birmingham, has been released under police investigation.

    The 22-year-old was bailed following his arrest on Wednesday. He was questioned in connection with the rape of the teenager in a vehicle in July. The girl had previously been raped at Witton railway station hours earlier.

    British Transport Police said it was still appealing for information about a Good Samaritan who picked up the victim after she was raped for the second time.

    A woman found dead at her home in Oldbury in what police believe to be a murder-suicide has been described this afternoon as the best mother.

    The tribute to Rikki Lander came in a family statement which said the 26 year old "lit up the room".

    West Midlands Police said three children who were at the address when Mrs Lander's body was found - along with that of husband Paul Lander - were being looked after by "loved ones".

    A husband and wife who died in what police are treating as a murder-suicide have been named by police as Paul Lander, 30 and Rikki Lander, 26.

    They were found dead at their home on Pel Cresent, Oldbury, on Saturday.

  8. 'Murder' arrest over Moseley stabbingpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a stabbing in Moseley, police say.

    The West Midlands force has this afternoon named the victim as Sajid Hussain, 40. He was stabbed in Tenby Road, where he lived, on Sunday evening and died a short time later in hospital.

    The arrested man is 23 and remains in police custody for questioning.

    A man who kissed a train passenger before biting her cheek is being sought by transport police.

    Officers believe the same offender struck earlier on the same day, pulling down a 39-year-old woman's top and touching her inappropriately. He then thanked her.

    That offence happened at 19:00 on 4 July on a train between Birmingham and Peterborough. Two men were near her, with one sitting down next to her and asking for a kiss before his assault.

    He disembarked in Peterborough and there a man thought to be the same individual boarded another train, kissing then biting a 20 year old.

    Police have released images of two men they wish to identify in connection with their investigation.

    Amavi, 23, is set to join Marseille while Bacuna, 25, is interesting one of Villa's Championship rivals.

    "We've agreed a fee with Marseille [for Amavi]," Bruce told BBC WM.

    "There's a Championship club after Bacuna, that looks close to being over the line too."

  12. Flea-bitten police officer gets £12,000 payoutpublished at 10:34 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

    A West Midlands police officer was awarded more than £12,000 in damages after being bitten by fleas at work, a Freedom of Information request revealed.

    The payout, which also cost £4,185 in legal fees, was one of 14 claims settled by the force in 2016/17 at a total cost of £61,131.30, reports the Press Association.

    A chopped-up Vauxhall Astra in a garage led police to the speeding driver who killed a woman in a hit-and-run crash, the West Midlands force says.

    The driver was Ghufran Syaed Khan of Tetley Road, Hall Green, who was, police said, doing 40mph in a 30 zone. He stopped at the scene but fled before officers arrived.

    Following an investigation, police found the car re-sprayed and dismantled in a garage, with just the engine number left to identify the vehicle

    Khan, 27, has been convicted of causing death by dangerous driving following a week-long trial at Birmingham Crown Court and jailed for five years.

  17. Passengers promised more seats as London Midland's control hits bufferspublished at 09:22 British Summer Time 10 August 2017

    Rail passengers are promised longer trains with more seats as part of the deal that will see West Midlands Trains take over London Midland services.

    The new operator - which takes over in December - has pledged to introduce about 400 carriages with space for an extra 85,000 passengers on rush hour trains. That's set to be rolled out by 2021.

    Announcing the change, the Department for Transport said compensation would be paid to passengers delayed by 15 minutes or more.

    Outgoing operator London Midland said a new long-term franchise meant further investment could now be made in the region’s rail network.

    West Midlands Trains Ltd has been announced as the new rail operator for routes currently run by London Midland.

    It's a joint venture between a dutch train company called Abellio and two Japanese train companies. It will be jointly managed by the Department for Transport and West Midlands Rail - which is a consortium of 16 local councils.

    The consortium has pledged an investment of £1bn, as well as more services, longer trains, more seats for passengers along with free wi-fi.
