    Investigations by West Midlands Police are continuing after raids at three restaurants in Coventry and the Black Country.

    Yesterday morning officers visited Ming Moon in Stafford Road, Wolverhampton; Red Leaf in High Street, West Bromwich; and Wing Wah in Fletchamstead Highway, Coventry.

    Twenty men, thought to be from Slovakia and Romania, were living in what police described as "poor conditions."

    An inquest has heard how a Wolverhampton man who stabbed his mother and sister before killing himself had been released from hospital because his mental state had greatly improved, an inquest has heard.

    Melvin James, 36, was discharged from the Royal Edinburgh Hospital in February.

    Days later he killed his sister and severely wounded his mother before turning the knife on himself while in the family flat in Wolverhampton.

    Psychiatrist Dr Norman Nuttall told the hearing that Mr James may have taken an opiate based drug which led to a psychotic episode.

  12. Police officers planned to steal drugspublished at 17:27 British Summer Time 22 August 2017

    Two West Midlands Police officers based in Birmingham have been convicted of plotting to steal and sell drugs.

    The force said a surveillance operation caught them, external talking about dealing drugs on duty - and conspiring with criminal associates to steal Class A and B drugs destined for Birmingham, with a plan to split the illegal consignment between them, then supply for their own financial gain.

    Police said Tahsib Majid, 36, (pictured right) was today convicted of misconduct in a public office, conspiracy to steal and conspiracy to possess drugs with intent to supply and unlawful disclosure of personal data.

    According to the force, Wahid Husman, 48, (pictured left) had earlier pleaded guilty to drug offences, conspiracy to steal and misconduct in a public office.

    The pair were based in Perry Barr and had been suspended from duty since their arrest in February.

    Five other people arrested in connection with the investigation also admitted a number of offences - with all parties due to be sentenced in October.

    Police investigating an attack on a woman at Birmingham's New Street station have released images of someone they wish to trace in connection with the incident.

    British Transport Police says, external the transgender woman in her 50s was walking through the station at about 21:55 on Friday 7 July when she was verbally abused by a man and two women.

    It is being investigated as a hate crime.

    The victim, who challenged the group, was followed by a male and a large plastic cone was swung at her.

  16. 'Slaves' to talk to police over raidspublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 22 August 2017

    We told you earlier about "slavery" arrests in connection with the discovery of 20 people following raids at restaurants in Wolverhampton, West Bromwich and Coventry.

    The West Midlands force says the men - mainly from Slovakia and Romania - have been taken to a reception centre where they will be given an opportunity to speak to specially trained officers.

    Officers visited three restaurants: Ming Moon in Stafford Road, Wolverhampton; Red Leaf in High Street, West Bromwich; and Wing Wah in Fletchamstead Highway, Coventry. An address in Handsworth, Birmingham, was also attended.

    Police said of the suspected slavery victims, 12 were found at the premises in Coventry, five in Wolverhampton and three at the Handsworth property.

    A man, 49, and a woman, 45, have been arrested on suspicion of slavery offences.
