    A teenage gymnast from Sutton Coldfield is due to compete in the all-around final at the world championships in Canada tonight.

    Alice Kinsella, who's 16 and part of the Park Wrekin club in Shropshire, is taking part in her first senior world championships.

    She set a personal best on the bars on her way to qualifying for the final.

  2. Three job centres to close in the West Midlands next yearpublished at 09:11 British Summer Time 6 October 2017

    More than 80 job centres across the UK are to close in a bid to making savings of £140m a year, the government has announced.

    This morning we told you about Tile Hill centre in Coventry closing next year.

    Other closures in the West Midlands include St Stephen's House in Redditch and Telford job centre on Church Street - both will close in March.

    Tile Hill will lose its job centre, the Department of Work and Pensions has confirmed.

    The centre on Torrington Avenue is to close in March 2018 - as part of plans to save money on the number of buildings they have. , external

    Services will be relocated to Cofa Court in the city centre.

    The dispute between the council and the city's bin men hasn't been fully resolved though.

    Birmingham's bin strike has been suspended after the High Court granted an interim injunction against the council's bid to make workers redundant.

  9. Shrewsbury Town's Hurst wins manager of the month awardpublished at 07:41 British Summer Time 6 October 2017

    The Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Hurst has won the League One manager of the month award for September.

    He has guided his side to six wins and one draw in seven matches and they sit at the top of the league table, four points clear of the next nearest team. They are also the only unbeaten side left in the English Football League.

    Perhaps surprisingly, it's Hurst's first major managerial award.

  10. Hospitals warn of 'extreme pressures' on A&Espublished at 07:31 British Summer Time 6 October 2017

    The trust that runs Staffordshire's two main hospitals is appealing for help from the public to try and reduce what it calls "increasing pressures" on its accident and emergency units.

    The University Hospital of North Midlands Trust says A&E services at the County Hospital in Stafford and the Royal Stoke are seeing more patients.

    People are being reminded to only go to A&E for genuine emergencies.

  11. Kingsley Burrell: Rally in protest of not guilty verdictspublished at 07:16 British Summer Time 6 October 2017

    The family of a man who died after being detained by police in Birmingham are due to stage a public rally in the city centre later,, external after three police offers were cleared of lying about his death.

    Kingsley Burrell, 29, died from cardiac arrest in March 2011, four days after being detained by police.

    This week a jury acquitted three police officers of charges of perjury and perverting the court of justice.

    Mr Burrell's family are calling for a public inquiry, based on allegations not proved in court, that while in a mental health unit his head had been covered.

    Aston Martin was the only car maker in Coventry and Warwickshire to see a rise in vehicle sales in the last month - according to industry body figures.

    The Gaydon-based luxury brand sold 144 cars last month, 14 more than in September 2016.

    Jaguar saw more than 500 fewer cars sold last month - while Land Rover saw their sales dip by 125 vehicles.

    The sharp fall in sales will cause "considerable concern", the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said.

    It will be "many months" before their investigation into Cheshire East Council reaches a conclusion, Cheshire Police has said.

    Officers began an investigation into alleged misconduct in public office nearly two years ago, after concerns over the way contracts were awarded.
