The woman who's set up a mannequin at the side of the road to encourage people to slow down on rural roads says it's not a distraction to drivers.

Julia Askew put up the mannequin, called Betty, along with a sign reminding motorists of the speed limit, in the village of Aston Ingham, near Ross-on-Wye.

    Mannequin and speed limit sign

She believes the mannequin and sign are helping slow drivers down, and denies accusations they are distracting drivers.

    Quote Message

People are supposed to be aware of their overall surroundings. Betty could be a child standing by the road who's about to run out, she could be a loose dog. People are supposed to be aware of what's around them when they are driving."
