    A teenager was left with serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle that failed to stop on Alum Rock Road in Birmingham.

    West Midlands Police says the 15-year-old boy was found by officers on patrol at the junction of Anthony Road last Thursday night.

    The force is appealing for the driver to "do the right thing" and come forward, after the boy needed surgery for "significant" facial injuries.

    Shropshire's maternity services are not "addressing all the needs" of people in the county, according to the doctor on the Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group with responsibility for women and children's services.

    Health commissioners have been meeting in Shrewsbury today to discuss progress on a review of maternity care, but say they have not yet agreed on how it needs to change.

    Shares in the UK-based entertainment giant Merlin are up almost 2% on reports the Warwick Castle owner has held talks to take over parts of US theme park giant SeaWorld.

    SeaWorld, which is based in Orlando, Florida, specialises in marine parks.

    Its shares rose 5% on Wednesday on speculation a deal was in sight.

    However, Merlin, which also runs Legoland theme parks around the world, as well as Madame Tussauds and London Eye, is understood to be interested in only buying part of SeaWorld.

    One of the last surviving Spitfire pilots from the Siege of Malta has returned to the country for the first time since World War Two.

    Allan Scott, from Wem, in Shropshire, is now 96 and was invited over for commemorations to mark the lifting of the siege 75 years ago.

    He was taken on a tour of the island and went to see his old airbase, which is now an international airport.

    Stoke-on-Trent College has paid tribute to the mother who died following a flat fire in Northwood this week.

    The fire was started by an electric storage heater in a ground floor flat in Northwood on Sunday morning.

    Zainab Adam, who was 36, died in hospital on Monday, two days before her six-year-old daughter, Tafaoul Fadou.

    Six-month-old Tamunni Fadoul remains in a critical condition in hospital.

    Zainab was learning English at the college and her teachers say she was "a delight to teach".

    Six families who lived in the block have been moved into temporary accommodation.

    Invictus Games athlete, Steve Boulton, has just arrived back from Toronto with his silver medal vowing to make it gold next year.

    The ex-serviceman, who was injured in Afghanistan and now works for Jaguar Land Rover as an engineer, won the medal in the wheelchair rugby event.

    He said the experience made him feel "on top of the world".

    Five passengers from the bus needed treating at the scene after the incident on Alcester Road South in the Kings Heath area of the city.

    The most seriously injured was a woman, believed to be in her 20s, who suffered a suspected fractured pelvis.

  13. Commonwealth Games Federation meet to discuss Birmingham bidpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 5 October 2017

    The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) is meeting in Sri Lanka today with Birmingham's bid to host the 2022 games on the agenda.

    The city is currently the only bidder to replace South African city Durban which was stripped of the event.

    The CGF said its executive board will today "receive an update on the current status of the 2022 selection process".

    A final decision on the host city is expected by the end of the year.

    Jean Owen, 52, was struck by the car last Friday on Delamere Grove where she lived, but died days later from her injuries.
