    A TV builder is suing West Mercia Police after being cleared of assaulting two officers outside a fast food restaurant in Redditch.

    Mobile phone footage shows Huntley Thawe - who's appeared in a string of DIY programmes - being struck repeatedly with a baton and then pepper-sprayed as his two young children watched on.

    He told me he's claiming assault and wrongful arrest, and believes the whole incident may jeopardise his career.

    West Mercia Police says it's carrying out an internal investigation into the conduct of the officers involved.

  2. Councillor election proposals to be 'thrown out'published at 17:45 British Summer Time 9 October 2017

    Proposals to change the way council elections are held in Dudley, look set to be thrown out by councillors tonight.

    The Conservatives and UKIP had wanted to scrap the current system of electing a third of councillors every year, with every fourth year off.

    Instead, they said electing all 72 councillors just once every four years, would save £250,000 a year.

    More than 80% of people who responded to a consultation on the issue, said they wanted things to stay the same.

  3. Woman 'critical' after Birmingham lorry crashpublished at 17:32 British Summer Time 9 October 2017

    A female pedestrian has been hit by a lorry and taken to hospital in a "critical" condition, West Midlands Ambulance Service says.

    It was called to the scene on Pershore Road, Birmingham, shortly after 16:00.

    West Midlands Police said there were road closures in place on Bristol Road and Pebble Mill Lane near the Edgbaston cricket ground.

    A wreath has been laid at Gheluvelt Park in Worcester this morning to commemorate the actions of a soldier who served in the Worcestershire Regiment during World War One.

    Private Frederick Dancox's bravery secured the surrender of a number of German machine gunners in the Battle of Poelcappelle in Ypres 100 years ago today.

    Awarded the Victoria Cross, he was killed in action less than two months later.

  5. Police cars 'targeted during anti-social behaviour patrol'published at 16:55 British Summer Time 9 October 2017

    Police say they'll deal robustly with vandals who smashed up two police cars in Shrewsbury.

    The attack came after officers took action against anti-social behaviour in the Kynaston Road area of Harlescott on Friday and Saturday evenings.

    They parked two vehicles at the area's youth club last night to carry out further foot patrols, only for the wing mirrors on both cars to be damaged and one of the rear windscreens smashed.

    No arrests have been made, but police are speaking to witnesses and checking CCTV pictures.

    There's been a serious crash at the junction of Pershore Road and Priory Road in Birmingham city centre.

    The council is asking, external people to find alternative routes where possible and to expect delays.

    A vehicle has hit a bridge between Shrewsbury and Wellington in Shropshire.

    London Midlands says, external trains through these stations may be cancelled or delayed.

    Road transport has been requested to shuttle rail passengers between Shrewsbury and Wellington.

    Work to rehome a unique collection of railway stock gets under way in Coventry today following the closure of the Electric Railway Museum.

    Many of the trains have been saved from the scrapyard by enthusiasts, after developers earmarked the land for a technology park.

    Museum volunteers now have a year to dismantle the 10-year-old exhibit and leave the site.

  10. 'Number 9' derby marred by flare troublepublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 9 October 2017

    Halesowen Town says it's working with Stourbridge Football Club to investigate trouble which marred the so-called Number 9 derby on Saturday.

    A red flare and a blue flare were thrown after each team scored in the 2-1 win for the home side at Amblecote. One of the flares hit a Halesowen supporter.

    The club says, external it's speaking with officials from Stourbridge, as well as West Midlands Police and stewards to help find those responsible.

    The club added it is in touch with the injured fan and will act on her instructions.

    A lightning strike at a church in Bridgnorth might have been a blessing in disguise a minister has said.

    The church of St Mary Magdalene on East Castle Street was struck by lightning last year, causing damage that's likely to cost nearly £30,000 to put right.

    The church was designed by Thomas Telford in the late 1700s.

    The Reverend Prebendary Simon Cawdell said they were taking the opportunity to re-guild the golden cross on top of its dome for the first time in 50 years.

  13. Road closures to make way for HS2published at 15:37 British Summer Time 9 October 2017

    There will be night-time closures (20:00-06:00) to Fazeley Street and Park Street in Birmingham from tonight until 20 October.

    It is in preparation for the construction of the Curzon Street station for when the HS2 line is in place.

    A 28-year-old man's been arrested after a firearms incident at the Fairfield Centre in Worcester this morning, say police.

    A weapon was recovered after armed officers were called to Carnforth Drive in the town, following reports of a man believed to be in possession of a firearm at around 11:37.

    The incident is unconnected to any terrorist activity, police said, and the man remains in custody.

    A boy from Staffordshire has started potentially life-saving treatment in America after he was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour.

    Three-year-old Dylan Alcock from Tean is getting focal proton radiotherapy at a hospital in Florida after local people raised more than £7,000 to fly him and his parents over there.

    His mum Anna said he's "responded well" to the treatment so far but it will take time before they know if it's worked.

    The former cabinet minister Owen Paterson has denied supporting moves against Theresa May.

    Mr Paterson, who's the MP for North Shropshire and the former secretary of state at Defra and the Northern Ireland Office, says claims at the weekend that he was among the plotters are "utter nonsense".

    He told BBC Radio Shropshire causing a Tory leadership campaign would be "absolutely idiotic".
