    Plans for a new estate of around 300 homes, as well as a boating lake, in Worcester have been shelved, according to local councillors.

    The project was to develop land close to the swimming pool in Perdiswell.

    Andy Stafford said he and fellow councillors felt that it wasn't appropriate to use parkland to build houses on, "which weren't required".

    "In an area that needed a new school, building more houses just creates additional pressure," he added.

    Shrewsbury are still unbeaten and with a two-point lead at the top of League one after Stefan Payne's early penalty equaliser.

    The penalty was awarded after a Walsall handball on the line, but there was no sending off as the rules demand.

    The match officials said they couldn't be sure who was the culprit in a crowded penalty area.

    Household rubbish collections start again in Birmingham today, after a long-running strike was called off.

    But some residents tell us that they had more collections when refuse workers were striking.

    These pictures have been sent to us of Brookfield Road in the city which, a resident says, "doesn't do justice to the smell".

    Bags there haven't been collected since the strike was called off, and council workers aren't due to collect there until Thursday.

    Birmingham has bid farewell to the colourful bear statues which formed a 70-mile tourist trail during the summer.

    The group of 100 bears, known as a sleuth, were gathered at Millennium Point over the weekend for final photographs.

    It's hoped they will raise around £500,000 for Birmingham Children's Hospital, when sold at auction.

    One man had to be rescued from a ninth floor flat in Edgbaston as a faulty microwave started a "severe fire", West Midlands Fire Service said, external.

    The number of street pastors in Coventry could double by the end of 2018.

    The volunteers walk around the city centre at night making sure revellers and vulnerable people are safe.

    The West Midlands Police and Crime Comissioner David Jamieson wants to take the current number of 48 to more than 100.

    It’s hoped pastors will soon be able to help people in three areas of the city, rather than just one.

    He was arrested in August 2015 after reports of a man carrying a hammer and behaving suspiciously near his home in Alum Rock, Birmingham.

    After being taken to a police station, officers found handwritten recipes for explosives, a modified fairy light and a hand-drawn map showing a drainage chamber.

    Borough councillors are now suggesting a temporary centre could be located in a school or college.
