    There are long delays on the M42 southbound, Highways England warns, but all lanes have now reopened between J10 and J9.

    On the M5 northbound J5-J4a, just one lane remains closed for the clear up and barrier repairs following the HGV crash at 05:20 this morning. Again there are long queues in the area.

    A Jaguar F-Pace and BMW 7 Series were stolen from driveways after a spate of car key burglaries in Warwickshire, police say., external

    Three properties in Glasshouse Lane, Kenilworth, were targeted last Friday, said officers, with offenders forcing entry through the rear of two of them.

    Car owners in the area are being warned to take extra safety precautions.

  3. Nine skip lorries destroyed in suspected arson attackpublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 12 October 2017

    A fire that destroyed nine skip hire vehicles at an industrial estate in Shropshire is believed to have been started deliberately.

    Police have been called in to investigate the fire, which started at the Shifnal Industrial Estate on Lamledge Lane at 01:50 on Saturday.

    Detectives say two people in dark clothing were seen in the area on that night.

    Firefighters from Handsworth, were called by the RSPCA to Broughton Road at around 10:00 and used ladders and safety gear to bring the animal down from it's five-metre-high perch.

    A spokesman for the service confirmed it was a tabby and not a polecat.

    Two lanes have reopened past the scene of an overturned lorry that's been causing misery on the northbound section of the M5 between junctions 5 and 4A.

    There are severe delays in the area back to junction six.

    An elderly woman has been taken to hospital suffering potentially life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car in Kenilworth.

    The ambulance service said crews were called to the scene of the crash in Sainsbury's car park, Warwick Road, at 12:33.

  9. Wolvey light aircraft crash: Victims namedpublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 12 October 2017

    Two men who died when a light aircraft crashed in a field in Wolvey, Warwickshire, have been named as Adrian Findlay, 55 from Rugby and 56-year-old Robert Stephens from Wolvey.

    Adrian's wife Alison said her family and friends were in shock at the "sudden and tragic loss".

    Robert will be remembered for his "cheeky sense of humour," said wife Caroline.

    An investigation by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch into the crash is continuing.

  10. Arrest after M6 crashpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 12 October 2017

    A man has been arrested after a two-car crash on the M6 in Cheshire earlier today.

    The collision, on the northbound carriageway between junctions 18 for Middlewich and 17 for Sandbach, has caused long delays.

    Cheshire Police says the crash happened after a vehicle failed to stop for officers and the 27-year-old man from Bodmin is being held on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving and driving while unfit.

  11. Led Zepplin drummer statue gets planning approvalpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 12 October 2017

    Plans for a bronze sculpture of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham have been approved by Redditch borough councillors.

    The lifesize statue will stand in the town centre, and it's hoped it will be completed in time for 31 May next year, which would have been his 70th birthday.

  13. Severn Valley Railway looks to raise £700kpublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 12 October 2017

    The Severn Valley Railway appeal, external to raise £2.5m for improvements to its Bridgnorth station is still £700,000 short of its target, with just 19 days to go.

    Last November it started collecting the money, by offering people the chance to buy £1 shares.

    The money will be used to pay for alterations to the station house, which include a new bar and toilet block.

    Work on the project started at the end of last year.

    The statistics have been piling up at the start of this rugby season: 10 of the 12 Premiership clubs suffered a combined 82 injuries to first-team players.

    One of them, Wasps, began October with 15 players out injured.

    It may turn out to be a freakish blip, a cruel upsurge in a sport where the number of professional players injured has been relatively static over the past eight years.

    The Rugby Football Union's annual injury audit in the new year should tell us more.

    Newly qualified GPs are to be offered a one-off payment of £20,000 if they start their careers in areas that struggle to attract family doctors.

    The £4m scheme, to be announced by Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, aims to boost the numbers of doctors in rural and coastal areas of England.

    Mr Hunt said it would help "reduce the pressure" on practices in those areas.

    The Royal College of GPs backed the plan, saying there was a "serious shortage" of family doctors.

    Plans which involve the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner taking control of the fire services in Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire have been submitted to the government, despite protests from the existing fire authorities.

    John Campion says this would save millions of pounds and improve collaboration between the police and fire service.

    Fire authorities and councils in the three counties have cast doubt on his money-saving claims and argued that there was good collaboration already.

    The Home Office will now be asked to make a decision on the proposals.

  18. Firefighters take out-of-service fire engines to Romaniapublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 12 October 2017

    A group of Shropshire firefighters are on their way to Transylvania, to deliver five out-of-service fire engines to the fire service in Romania.

    It's been organised by a local charity, Operation Sabre, and also involved firefighters from Wales, Manchester, Merseyside and Bavaria.

    The team are due to take five days travelling almost 2,000 miles across nine countries to reach Romania, where they will also train volunteer firefighters from remote villages.

    It's the 14th time the charity has organised one of these aid missions.
