    The BBC TV series Ambulance comes to an end tonight and it's been winning a lot of praise on the BBC Midlands Facebook page., external

    The documentary shows the work done by paramedics and call-centre staff in the region and Pat Burford wrote: "Fantastic programme, all those people are worth their weight in gold."

    And Amanda Henry added: "Watching this programme opened up my eyes as to what they do."

    Simon Pilkington also enjoyed the series and commented: "Probably one of the best programmes in a very long time. The public takes these people for granted far too often."

    And Pat Bayton says the programme has improved her understanding of the work they do, writing: "Had to use the ambulance a few weeks ago. Was panicking cos it took the ages. I can understand why after watching this brilliant programme."

    Cheshire's Jodrell Bank is in the running to be recognised as a World Heritage site.

    The observatory has been selected as the next UK candidate to go forward for nomination to Unesco.

    Professor Teresa Anderson, the director of Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre, said it would be a "real honour" to be selected and that it could attract a lot of international tourists.

    A lorry driver has been taken to hospital with multiple injuries after his vehicle overturned on the M5 in Worcestershire this morning.

    He had to be cut free from his vehicle after a crash which involved another lorry.

    The motorway was completely closed earlier northbound near junction five and, while two lanes are now open, Highways England says delays could last most of the day, while barrier repairs are carried out.

  6. Child abuse victim secures council pay-outpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 12 October 2017

    A woman who suffered sexual and physical abuse at a string of Coventry children’s homes has been awarded a five-figure sum by the city council, in an out-of-court settlement.

    The victim, who was first placed into care aged 12, was regularly assaulted by staff members at the Grange education unit, Wisteria Lodge children's home and secure unit Stoke House.

    Despite reporting the assaults to the council and police since 1999, some of her abusers weren't convicted until 2016, and some have since passed away.

    Her lawyer Tracey Emmott said the events conformed to a "dreadful pattern of institutionalised abuse".

    Coventry City Council said claims against it are "considered on their individual merits and any payments made accordingly".

    On-loan midfielder Ben Godfrey says Shrewsbury Town have a good reputation for developing young players, and that is helping them bring in high-calibre recruits.

    Godfrey is one of three Norwich players currently on loan with Paul Hurst's team and he said his parent club "really trust Shrewsbury".

    Children's authors and illustrators have been donating copies of their books to a Shropshire primary school which had its library damaged by water.

    St Andrew's Primary School, in Shifnal, estimates it lost books worth £5,000 when a pipe burst last weekend.

    The general public have also been donating books to the school.

    An online fundraising appeal has raised £1,500 in just two days.

    The Highways Agency is reporting there are two lanes closed on the M5 northbound in Worcestershire, near junction five.

    A major crash early this morning involving two lorries left one of them overturned and blocking the carriageway. Recovery crews are on the scene.

    The incident took place on Lillington Road, Leamington Spa, at about 13:15 on Tuesday.

    The victim, in her 50s, was walking towards her front door when a man, wearing a balaclava, forced her to hand over her keys before driving off, with the boot still open.

    Insp Tim Sharpe, of Warwickshire Police described it as a "terrifying ordeal" for the woman, who wasn't injured in the attack.

    I've been told there was trouble brewing at Long Lartin prison in Worcestershire for several months before last night's disturbances.
