    Jean Hughes from Oswestry decided to take up new challenges after chats with her husband's carers.

  9. Bail extension in kidnapping case of elderly Americanpublished at 18:39 British Summer Time 24 October 2017

    A 51-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping an elderly American who was found in Herefordshire has had his bail extended until 2 January.

    Roger Curry (pictured below), who was identified by an investigation by the BBC Panorama team, was looked after in a care home in Herefordshire in 2015 and 2016 after he was found on the streets in a confused state.

    Mr Curry, who is thought to have dementia, is now in the care of the health authorities in Los Angeles.

  11. Slippery leaves cause train to overshoot stationpublished at 18:29 British Summer Time 24 October 2017

    A train overshot a station because of "decomposing, damp leaves" on the tracks, London Midland has said.

    The leaves had produced a "slippery residue" which was "similar to motorists driving on ice," the company said.

    No passengers were hurt in the incident at Bedworth,, but some reported a burning smell, which London Midland said was probably the result of heavy braking.

    The rail company has promised a "thorough investigation".

    A woman was trapped in her car for about an hour following a collision with a van in which both vehicles overturned.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called at about 09.00 to the scene on the A5 between Muckley Corner and Wall Island near Lichfield.

    A spokesman said "ambulance crews worked with the fire service to free [the woman] through the boot of the vehicle".

    She was treated for neck, arm and leg injuries.

  13. Second surrogacy bid for man who lost wife to cancerpublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 24 October 2017

    A man who lost his wife to cancer is hoping a second attempt at surrogacy will be successful.

    Jake Coates' wife Emmy died in June shortly after transferring her embyros to a surrogate.

    But the surrogate, Liz Begg, had an eptopic pregnancy and lost the baby.

    Mr Coates, of Herefordshire, said that moment was "heartbreaking", but plans to start the process with Liz again next month and the clinic has agreed to waive some of its fees for the process.

    Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell says more of his younger players could benefit from going out on loan.

    They currently have three players out at non league clubs and he said he's been having lengthy discussions with his management team about their development.

    The family of a man killed during riots in Birmingham 12 years ago have made a fresh appeal to help catch his killer.

    Isaiah Young-Sam, 23, was stabbed during disorder in the Lozells area of the city in October 2005.

    Three men had been convicted of his murder, but were acquitted on appeal.

    Murna McLean was tearful as she asked people to "search their conscience" to help find her son's killer.

    At the press conference she said it's been "really painful to do this after all these years".

    It's the most wonderful time of the year in Stirchley, Birmingham as a family have literally decked the halls, the windows and front door full of all things Christmas.

    With 61 days to go until Santa Claus arrives, Jean and John Copestick say "they take no notice" when people shout it's too early" to dress-up their house.

    The couple, of Barnes Close, say they do it for their children, grand children and great grand children "the babies just love it".

    A culmination of 31 years of Christmas decorations are on display in the house but they've now told people to stop being their more decs - "we've got more than enough".

    Even if you look on the ceiling - there are decorations. Even the garden is awash with lights.

    It's a year since Paul Hurst was appointed manager of Shrewsbury Town.

    In that time the former Grimsby boss has taken an ailing club heading for relegation and turned it into one that's unbeaten in League One and chasing promotion.

    His achievements have led some to speculate he could be heading for a job at a bigger club, but he says that's not on his mind right now.

    A man in his 70s remains in hospital with chest injuries following a head-on crash on the A438 near Ledbury which claimed the life of his female passenger.

    The green Rover he was driving collided with a silver Peugeot at Hollybush at 17:30 on Sunday and the woman, also in her 70s, died at Hereford Hospital from her injuries.
